The following directions apply to devices that need to be manually added to Apple Business Manager (ABM). Review Apple's requirements to see if your device qualifies for this method.
You will probably need to onboard devices this way because:
- You purchased devices before you had an ABM account.
- Devices were added to your organization outside of ABM distributors.
We also offer alternative onboarding methods:
- Refer to the ABM onboarding guide if your devices are already part of ABM.
- If you don't plan on using ABM in your provisioning process, see Onboarding with Direct Profile.
Requirements:
- Apple Business Manager
- Apple Configurator
- A Mac computer
- A device that runs iOS, including iPadOS
- A cable to connect your iOS device to your Mac computer
- That the device is removed from any previous MDM service
Note: Any devices onboarded will be subject to Apple's 30-day grace period to opt out of remote management. Distribute devices to end users after 30 days or use kiosk mode to avoid unintentional opt-outs.
Refer to Apple's documentation to add devices via Apple Configurator.
Once added to ABM, add the device to Esper using the ABM onboarding method.
