When you notice suspicious activity on your iOS device, you can activate Lost Mode from the console.
While in Lost Mode, the device won’t be able to be:
- Converged
- Removed from Esper (Factory Reset)
- Pinged
- Rebooted
- Shutdown
- Screen locked (Lost Mode provides a lock screen in place of this)
- Have its passcode cleared

Enabling Lost Mode
Click on the device in Devices & Groups, and go to the Settings tab. Then click on Enable Lost Mode.
Enter a lock screen message and a phone number.
Then press Enable Lost Mode.
If the device is reachable, it will enter Lost Mode.
Then, track the device’s location from the Overview tab.
Tracking a Device in Lost Mode
Once a device is in Lost Mode, it can be observed from the console from the device’s Overview tab.
You can perform the following actions from the Lost Mode section:
- Update location: The device’s location will update as long as it is connected to a network. You can manually update it using the Update location button.
- Sound: Click Play Sound to play a noise on the device.
You also check the following from this section:
- Last known location
- Last update time (the last time the device was reachable based on console time)
- Lockscreen message
- Phone number
- Footnote (this information is provided by Esper)
Disabling Lost Mode
To disable Lost Mode, the device must be connected to a network and reachable by Esper.
Option 1: Click on the device in Devices & Groups. From the Overview tab, click on Disable Lost Mode.
Option 2: From the device’s Settings tab, click on Disable Lost Mode.
You’ll be prompted to confirm that you want to disable Lost Mode.
Then confirm by typing DISABLE in the text field.
It may take a few moments for the device to exit Lost Mode.
