What's changing with Device ID?
Device ID in currently used in the console to identify devices by a unique ID (for that tenant). However, in the API, Device ID refers to a device's UUID, which is its unique ID for all of our Esper systems. In order to better communicate this, we're changing Device ID to Device Name in the console.
When can I expect these changes?
We'll begin rolling out these changes in October 2025.
Are Alias Names also changing?
There are no planned changes for Alias names at this time.
Will the APIs change?
In the API, "id" has always referred to the device's UUID, and device_name has referred to its console name. The console Device ID → Device Name change was made to better align with the API.

How do I remove an offline device?
There are different requirements for removing devices communicating with Esper and devices that either powered off or no longer communicating with Esper. Read How to Remove Devices for more information.
How do I run a bug report for a device that is no longer communicating with Esper?
Even if a device is connected to a network, it may not be communicating with Esper. To resolve this, try the following:
- Reboot the device.
- Check that the Wi-Fi credentials are correct in the Template or Blueprint.
- Connect the device to a different network. Consider using a hotspot to test the connection temporarily.
- Verify that the firewall requirements are met.
Once it connects, you can run a bug report. If the device is still not connected, you can also run ADB to get a bug report manually if the setting was previously enabled through a Template or Blueprint.
How is the security status of a device determined?
We use the OS/Build's known security exploits and vulnerabilities to determine the security status.
Can I find out which devices use Wi-Fi vs. cellular data?
You can add a filter on the device list view — the "Network Type" as a column option.
Why is landscape and portrait mode reversed on my device?
This device-specific behavior depends on the device manufacturer and OS image installed on the device. The same system would be landscape for some devices and portrait for others. We have fixed this issue for some devices. Contact Esper Support if you notice this behavior on your device.
How can I remove Esper from my device?
You can reset the device locally or perform the same action from the Esper Console. Note: The device should be communicating with Esper and connected to an active network while you send the reset command to the device. Read more about removing devices from Esper.
Can I cancel commands such as App Installs or Bug Reports from the console?
In general, most commands, once fired, cannot be canceled such as App Installs unless they are in a Pipeline or in a queue. A Bug Report can be cancelled if it's queued. However, it will time out (typically after a few minutes to half an hour) if the request fails. You can view device commands and activity information from the Event Feed.
Can I disable the navigation bar from a device?
The navigation bar can be hidden for certain devices in Kiosk Mode.
