Accessing Esper Settings from the Hidden Dock

Sometimes you need to access Esper Settings while out in the field. A device’s Wi-Fi settings may have changed, or you may need to factory reset the device. However, a device may be set to Kiosk Mode, or have the hidden dock enabled, preventing you from seeing the system’s applications. In that case, you can use the three-tap method to access Esper Settings.

We recommend locking critical device settings behind Admin Settings, such as Wi-Fi access and a Factory Reset option. You can do this by deselecting these settings in a Template, Compliance Policy, or Blueprint.
You can avoid using the hidden dock altogether by implementing Android Intents within your app. 

On the device, try the following:

  • Press the power button 3-7 times with .75 seconds between presses.
  • Tap the screen in the upper-right corner 3-7 times with .75 seconds between taps.

You should see a chevron icon appear.

Not working? Sometimes you need to get the timing just right between taps to open the menu. The amount of taps can also vary between interactions. Try to time your taps/hits so that the screen consistently turns off and on. Lock screens can also interfere with accessing the dock. If you see a lock screen when trying to access this menu, consider disabling it. 

Tap the settings icon to access Esper Settings. You can access the Admin Settings by clicking Admin Settings by inputting the password. Passwords are set in the Esper Settings App section of a Template, Compliance Policy, or Blueprint.

Allow a few seconds for the button to disappear after exiting Esper Settings. You can also reboot the device to hide it.
