This guide walks through how to configure and deploy the DataWedge app using Zebra’s OEMConfig application in Esper, covering both managed Google Play and non–Google Play deployment scenarios.
Zebra provides two versions of the OEMConfig application: a current release version that includes the latest features, updates, and ongoing support, and a legacy version intended for backward compatibility with older deployments. For new implementations, Zebra recommends using the latest release version. You can confirm that you are selecting the correct version by verifying the package name: com.zebra.oemconfig.release.

Data Wedge App Configuration
Step 1: Use Zebra StageNow to generate the Data Wedge configuration profile.
Without Google Play
Step 2: Download the OEMConfig application from Zebra. In the Esper console, go to Apps > Android Enterprise Apps and upload the OEMConfig application.
Step 3: Add the DB file to Content Management.
In the Content Management section, upload the DB file.
Only DB files are supported at this time.
Step 4: Add the DB file to the blueprint.
Go to Blueprints Manager and create a new blueprint (or edit an existing one).
In the Files section, add the following file path: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.symbol.datawedge/files/autoimport
Step 5: Add the OEM app and set the Data Wedge app to Show
Go to the Apps & Configuration section and select the OEMConfig app from the select apps section.
Optional: While you don’t have to set the Data Wedge app to the show state, it’s recommended when testing. Set the app to Hide when deploying in Production.
Set the Data Wedge app to the Show state by entering its package name in Set State for Preloaded App.
Then set its state to Show.
You can also set the state from the Manage Applications list.
You can manage configurations at an individual, group, or blueprint level.
In the blueprint, click on the ellipsis next to the device and select Managed Configurations. Then paste the JSON config.
Save, publish, and converge the blueprint to your Zebra devices.
With Google Play:
Step 1: Approve the Zebra OEM application
In the Esper Console, go to Apps > Play Store.
Search for the Zebra OEM application. Then, select and approve the app.
Step 2: In Managed Configurations > Files Configurations, click on Configure.
Add the device path and name. /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.symbol.datawedge/files/autoimport/filename
Set up additional configurations.
Step 2: Add the OEMConfig app to a blueprint
In the Blueprint Manager, create a new blueprint and go to the Apps & Configuration section.
Go to the Apps & Configuration section and select the OEMConfig app from the select apps section.
Save, publish, and converge the blueprint to your Zebra devices.
By deploying DataWedge configurations through OEMConfig and blueprints, you can standardize scanner behavior across devices while reducing manual intervention during provisioning. Whether you’re working in a managed Google Play environment or deploying outside of it, using DB file imports and blueprint-level configurations ensures consistent, scalable setup for Zebra devices.
