Esper Agent Version: v8.9.1890
New Features and Announcements
-
We’ve wrapped up our Linux Beta and will now begin rolling it out as a general release. You’ll soon enjoy all the features we launched at beta, with a few notable additions:
- Remote Viewer and Control: You’ll now be able to see and control your Linux device’s screen from the Esper console. Start a remote session to troubleshoot or use in tandem with Remote Terminal to observe file downloads. Learn more about Linux Remote Viewer and Control.
- User Management: Create Root and Standard users to manage your Linux devices. Root users have the same privileges as administrators while standard users are restricted from certain directories such as boot and root folders. In addition, you’ll be able to customize permissions for Remote Terminal, Custom Actions, and scripts. Create roles in the Esper console to cover all your bases. Learn more about specific directory permissions and how to set up Linux user roles.
- Linux APIs will soon be available. Control Linux devices programmatically via Esper's API.
- You can now apply dynamic placeholders for iOS app configurations. An app configuration is a customizable script that can be applied to supported applications to expose device information such as Device aliases, serial numbers, tenant ID, and more. Easily identify devices in the field by applying dynamic placeholders to your applications.
-
We will be making a few changes in the console related to how we name features:
- We will be changing Device ID to Device Name to better align with our naming conventions in the API.
- For application management, we will be changing “version name” to “version code.”
- Also in application management, we will be changing “version code” to “build number.”
We’ll share more details as we get closer to these changes. As of DevRel 173, these changes are planned but not yet implemented. See our Application FAQ and Device FAQ to learn more.
Bug Fixes and Improvements
- The correct Esper Agent version is now available for the Devices & Groups list page for certain types of devices. This fixed an issue where the wrong Esper Agent version was shown.
- We fixed an issue when downloading a file through the Remote Terminal for Linux devices. Previously, missing files or directories weren’t handled when choosing a path. The system will now verify these paths, meaning you’ll be able to choose the correct path if one isn’t available.
- We’ve improved the copy messages in several sections including Alerts and Linux provisioning to make it clear how these features work.
We’re excited to launch DevRel 173 over the coming days, and the Esper team is hard at work on the next release. Please contact Esper Support to share your thoughts on how Esper can improve future releases.
