After provisioning a device, you can manage it by assigning it to a blueprint. Once a device is assigned a blueprint, you can install applications, change its settings, and make updates to it in just a few steps.
There are two ways to assign a device to a blueprint:
- Add the device to a group that has a blueprint
- Add a blueprint to a single device

About Default Blueprints for iOS Devices
Every device onboarded to Esper will have a blueprint assigned to it. Depending on how you onboard an iOS device, they may be onboarded with a default blueprint. A default blueprint is a blank blueprint that doesn’t apply any settings to a device.
This guide explains how to apply a new blueprint to a device to better manage your devices.
For Android devices, you’ll have the option to apply a blueprint of your choosing at the provisioning step.
Adding a Device to a Group
Groups are ways of organizing devices. A few common ways to group devices are according to location, function, or organizational owner.
To create a new group, navigate to Devices & Groups and press Add > New Group.
Then create the group.
After creating the group, click on Link Blueprint. When you link a blueprint to a group, all devices provisioned with that group will be assigned the linked blueprint.
Press Link and select the blueprint. Then press Link Only.
Devices can now be added to the group. Navigate to Devices & Groups and ensure you are viewing devices. If not, select Views > Devices.
For an individual device, click on the ellipsis (...) and select Move.
For multiple devices, check the box next to the Device ID and then go to Actions > Move.
If the device is assigned to another blueprint, press Confirm.
The device is now part of the group. Allow a few moments for the linked blueprint to apply.
Adding a Blueprint to a Device
Blueprints can also be added to devices. After creating a blueprint, navigate to Devices & Groups. Click on the ellipsis (...) next to the device and select Change Blueprint.
For multiple devices, click on the checkboxes next to the device and then on the Actions button. Then select Change Blueprint.
You’ll be asked to select the blueprint. Then choose Immediately Converge to apply the blueprint. iOS devices only support Immediately Converge.
Then press Change & Converge. Allow a few moments for the blueprint to apply to the device.
