This guide walks you through the process of setting up a static IP on a device. Not every device fleet will need static IP addresses; some fleets may need a static IP for security reasons. Discuss with your organization whether static IP is right for your fleet.
Product requirements
- Enterprise Admin user role
Device requirements
- For Ethernet, you'll need an Esper Foundation for Android device (also known as an x86 device) running SDK 3.0 or later.
- For Wi-Fi devices, you'll need Android devices on versions 6–10. Static IP was deprecated for Android 11.
To configure a different Wi-Fi connection as Static, connect the device to that network and then configure the Static IP settings (IP, Gateway, etc.) through the console. This article covers the Blueprints method (most common) and the Templates method (legacy).
Blueprints
Locate the device you'd like to configure in Devices & Groups. Open the Network section and click Add WiFi Static IP.
Templates
Locate the device you'd like to configure in Devices & Groups. Open the Wi-Fi section and click Advanced Settings.
Complete the static IP configuration
Disable DHCP.
Enter the following information:
- The static IP address you'd like to assign to the device.
- The subnet mask. Enter the prefix length (1–32). Refer to the conversion chart for more information.
- The primary DNS.
- Optional: A secondary DNS.
- The gateway IP address.
Click Confirm.
The device will attempt to connect to the internet using the provided static IP configurations. If the configurations are incorrect or the device cannot connect, it will default to the previously configured working IP settings.
