Esper has been updated to DevRel 27.
Read-Only User Role
We are bringing up a new role in the Users section as “Viewer”which has READ-only access to the entire console. A user in this role can only view the Provisioning Templates, Devices, Groups, Apps, Event feed, Compliance Policy, Alerts, Pipeline, and Geofence sections. Viewers do not have access to any actions on the Console. You can create accounts with this new user role under User Management.
Bypass Managed Google Play Services During Provisioning
In Provisioning Templates > Create template > Apps click on Advanced Settings on the right. You will see a checkbox that allows users to include or bypass Google Play setup during provisioning. If this is turned off, Google Play apps will not be updated and will reduce provisioning time drastically. If the tenant is enrolled into a Managed Google Play account, the default value for this is checked on, but if the tenant is not enrolled then the default is off.
Device List View Improvements
We are bringing up actions such as Ping and Reboot for both online and offline devices that can be dynamically selected from the device list view.
Rebooting can be done on either online or offline devices, once they come back online.
The history of all commands fired by any user can be viewed under the Device details icon. More details (current status) of each command can be accessed by clicking ‘View Details’.
Get details (status) of each command such as how many devices are currently in In progress, Success, Queued or in the Failed state.
The details and activity of any single device can be known by selecting a device and clicking the Device details icon. The Activity tab will show all activities done on that device.
Additional filters such as Network Type, Android Version, Security Status, Battery Percentage and more have also been added to the list view.
Device Name Alias
Provisioned devices will now show the Device alias on the Home screen instead of the Device ID. Device aliases are now used for the Names in the list of devices for Geofence.
IMEI-based Device Provisioning
This release rolls out a new method of provisioning devices using either the IMEI/SN of the device which is entered in a Provisioning Template under Add devices (Note: You can only see this option when editing a Provisioning Template and not during initial template creation). Use the same to provision the device via afw without having to scan the QR code. If you provisioned with the Esper Settings app password-protected, you may have to enter the password on device during provisioning if using this method. This method is ideal for provisioning a large number of GMS devices without the need to scan the QR code or to provision a GMS device that has no camera.
Compliance Policy – New Warning
When applying a Compliance policy to a device, if users reapply the existing policy, a warning will pop up to notify that the same policy has already been applied.
Scheduled App Install Improvements
In response to strong customer feedback, we’ve implemented better validation messages, and added the ability to enter custom timings instead of predefined time slots available.
Group App Install and Uninstall Commands
In addition to listing devices that successfully installed an app (Success) or Failed, we are also showing In Progress along with the queued commands and the total number of devices. The error messages for Failed are also improved and contain further details regarding each specific error.
Play for Work Available Under Apps
Play for Work has been removed from the sidebar and is now only available under Apps > Play store. Don’t worry, if you have already created a Managed Google Play account under Company Settings, the Play store will still be available in the sidebar.
