Upgrading Devices
After confirming device compatibility, it’s time to upgrade your devices.
First, switch the Blueprints view. Then locate the devices or group you’d like to upgrade.
In Devices & Groups, switch the legacy toggle to “off”.
For individual devices
You may need to adjust the columns to see the upgrade option. In the Devices & Groups section, click on Views > Customize List View.
Then choose Blueprint Upgraded and apply the changes.
Search for the device in Devices & Groups. There should be a Blueprint Upgraded column (you may need to scroll horizontally).
Click on Upgrade Now.
Then select the blueprint and click on Upgrade.
For a group upgrade
Click on the group in the groups view. You may need to switch to group view by clicking on Views > List: Groups.
Then click on Actions > Upgrade Blueprint.
Then, locate your devices (or the group you created) in the Blueprints view.
Then select the blueprint and choose Upgrade.
The devices will take a few moments to upgrade.
Ensure the device is connected to a network during the upgrade. A comman failure at this stage is network connection. See Wi-fi Access Point Behavior for more information.
Converging the Device
After upgrading, click on the device to verify that it's been updated to the Blueprints experience. It should now have a blueprint assigned to it in the Blueprint field.
But you'll still need to Converge it for the blueprint to take effect.
You might notice that the device is now in a Drift state. Drift means the device's configurations do not match its blueprint. To apply the blueprint, you'll need to Converge it.
To Converge the device, click on Actions > Converge.
Keep track of the device's Converge events from the device's Event Feed.
If you find that the device fails to Converge after trying a few times, contact Esper Support.
After you’ve converged the devices, test them out. Take note of any behaviors that differ from the original behavior.
If you add a device via seamless provisioning, that device will upgrade just like any other device. The seamless entry will be removed from the template and will be assigned to the blueprint after the device upgrades.
