Identifying Test Devices
We always recommend customers test software updates before deploying fleetwide. To that end, you’ll want to identify a few devices of each type that you can upgrade and test (preferably in a lab environment). You'll also want a group of control devices to verify workflows.
First, let's check if your devices are on a compatible Esper Agent.
In order for devices to upgrade to the Blueprints experience, they must meet the following eligibility criteria.
Minimum Esper Agent Version | Recommended Esper Agent Version |
7.8 | 7.17+ or the latest version |
To check a device's agent version, go to the device’s Information page, and locate the Installed Esper Agent Version.
If your devices are above version 7.8 (or on the latest Esper agent version), you’re ready to proceed with the next step.
If your devices are not on the minimum version 7.8, then you’ll need to update them.
Updating Devices to the Minimum Version
To update your devices, collect their device IDs.
Then go to Esper Software Updates.
You’ll see the latest versions of the Esper Agent. We recommend using the latest version to perform this update. The latest version will appear at the top of the list.
In this example, version 8.0.0601 was the latest released version, but the latest version may differ.
Click on Deploy in Pipeline. You’ll have the option to name the pipeline.
Then press Continue.
Ensure Select Targets is set to Devices and select the devices you want to update.
Then monitor the devices' progress by using Pipelines.
After a successful update, the devices are now ready to be upgraded to the Blueprints experience.
