Zero-touch Enrollment (ZTE) is an enrollment method offered by Google for the selected devices. Upon first boot or factory reset, ZTE forces Android devices to enroll in Esper. Follow the steps below to onboard a device using ZTE. Learn more about ZTE enrollment.
- You will need to manually factory reset the device to enroll it in ZTE and Esper.
- This is an alternative method for enrolling devices to the console. You may need to sign up and log in to Android Partners to begin.
- If you experience issues during ZTE provisioning, you may need to log into the portal and accept ZTE's updated Terms of Service.
Step 1: Register devices with Seamless Provisioning
In the Esper console, go to Provisioning Methods and select Seamless Provisioning. Then, select the blueprint for the devices. Ensure you select this same blueprint when completing the ZTE provisioning step, along with any other optional selections.
Optionally, select or add:
- A group for the device.
- The Wi-Fi access point.
- The device language.
- An alias
- Tags
Input or upload the serial numbers or IMEIs associated with the devices you intend to ZTE provision. Learn more about creating a CSV file for multiple IMEI/Serial numbers.
Note: The Seamless Provisioning method in Provisioning Methods allows users to register devices with the Epser console. It can be used in combination with other provisioning methods.
Step 2: Copy the JSON data.
In Provisioning Methods, select Google Zero-touch Enrollment as your Provisioning Method.
Then click on the Blueprint tab.
Select the same blueprint you used for seamless provisioning, along with any other optional selections you made during seamless provisioning. If the JSON data does not appear, you may need to assign a group to the device before proceeding.
Then copy the JSON data.
In the Esper console, go to Provisioning Methods and select Seamless Provisioning. Then click on the Templates tab and choose the provisioning template.

In the Esper Console, go to Provisioning Methods and select Google Zero-touch Enrollment as your Provisioning Method.
Then click on the Templates tab, select a template, and copy the JSON data that appears.
Step 3: Navigate and log in to the Zero-touch Enrollment (ZTE) portal. You will be taken to the Configuration tab.
Here you'll create a configuration to associate with a device.
Step 4: Click the ‘+’ symbol to add a new configuration.
Step 5: On the pop-up, enter the details — configuration name and EMM DPC (Esper Device Management). Enter your organization’s information for the company name, support email address, and support phone number.
Paste JSON data you copied from the console into the DPC extras field.
Step 6: The added configuration will be displayed on the Configuration tab.
Step 7: Now, you need to add the configuration to the device. Navigate to the device tab. Here all the devices added by the reseller are displayed with no configuration.
Step 8: Select the device you want to associate with a configuration. Click on the dropdown and choose the configuration.
Step 8: Confirm your choice and the device will be associated with the configuration.
Step 9: Factory reset the device.
You will go through the standard Android setup steps once the device boots up again. The Zero-touch Portal will find your device and start the onboarding process after a few license/onboarding prompts. Additionally, the device will be provisioned with Esper.
Tips
Note: You can assign the same configuration to multiple devices at a time. Navigate to the Device section for bulk upload and choose ‘Upload batch configurations’ from the menu.

If the device camera activates during the provisioning process, this may mean the device is not registered with Esper. Ensure that the device’s registration information is correct and try again.
