Esper customers have more control over total device health with the DevRel 47 release. We’ve expanded custom device settings further and added our Android Content Management API as a console GUI feature.
Here’s a quick look at what’s new in DevRel 47:
- Console Content Management
- New Custom Device Setting Configurations
- Quick Provisioning Wizard
- API in Esper DeviceSDK to Unlock or Wake Devices
1] Content Management
Now users can upload or transfer file(s) upto 2 GB, including config files and other file formats, to devices and device groups.
It allows customers to share content in an efficient, secure manner. Now, you can:
- Store files in Esper’s cloud console.
- See the file transfer history for devices or device groups.
- View file transfer status (success, failure, or in progress) and status details.
2] More Configurations for Custom Device Settings
DevRel 47 added more configurations to the custom Esper settings app. Now, admins can configure Sound and Mobile data using Esper APIs or JSON format for extra template settings.
- Sound:We added the Sound Settings Activity (Alarm, Music, Notification and Ring Volume) in the Esper Settings App. This is available for all Android versions. Now, Admins can expose these sound settings to end users and track sound setting changes through Esper’s cloud console.
- Mobile Data:Now, admins can expose the option to turn mobile data off or on from the Esper custom settings app. This feature is available for Android OS version 4.4. For Android Version 5.0+, a signed supervisor plugin is required.

3] Quick Provisioning Wizard
Users can now create a quick template streamlining the detailed options provided by Esper’s standard Provisioning Template. The Quick Provisioning Wizard only requires the following selections:
- Application(s) to Use
- Single or Multi-App Kiosk Mode
The Quick Provisioning Wizard will select default settings for everything else. You can go back and edit the template any time.
4] API in Esper DeviceSDK to Unlock or Wake Devices
Now, admins can remotely unlock or wake devices. If the device is set to swipe-to-unlock (no password), the swipe requirement is bypassed. If the device password or PIN is set, the end user will still need to manually enter the password.
Bugs and Improvements
- Users can now successfully create, install, and run web apps using the Playstore App Maker. Learn more in the Google Play For Work Web Apps section of Esper’s docs.
You can explore this use case further in The Best Way to Build Android Apps in Kiosk Mode.
- Also, we’ve now fixed a bug that was impacting one OEM’s devices to be password non-compliant, even when no password policy was applied to the device.
- Remote Viewer operations have been fully restored for all Esper customers.
- Finally, we’ve moved the ability to add tags and rename devices in Devices and Groups. Now, you can add tags or make name changes by selecting “Grid View” under Devices or Groups, and clicking on the ellipsis next to each device.
