Wi-Fi access point added via API not visible in console: check Network Details on device overview
Android
Title: Wi-Fi access point added via API not visible in Esper Console — check Network DetailsWhen a Wi-Fi access point is added to a device using the Esper API, it does not appear in the same location as network settings configured through a Blueprint. Instead, the Esper Console displays it in the Network Details section of the device's Overview page, which can be easy to overlook.
Why this happens
Wi-Fi access points pushed via the API are applied directly to the device and reported back as live device telemetry. Because they are not part of a Blueprint's network policy, they do not appear under Blueprint configuration. The Esper Console surfaces them in Network Details, which reflects the current network state reported by the device.
Before you start
Confirm the API call succeeded before checking the Console. In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Activity Feed and look for an entry that reads:
Added Wi-Fi access point "<SSID>" to the device. Successful
If the entry shows Failed or Pending, the access point was not applied to the device and will not appear anywhere in the Console. Resolve the API call itself before continuing.
Steps to find your Wi-Fi access point
- In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups and select the target device to open its detail view.
- Click the Overview tab.
- Scroll down to the Network Details section. This section shows live telemetry reported by the device, including all Wi-Fi access points pushed via API.
- Locate the SSID and verify it matches exactly what was sent in the API request payload.
Note: If the device has connected to a different network since the API call was made, Network Details will reflect the current active connection. The configured access point will still be stored on the device even if it is not the active network.
Verify: The SSID added via API should appear in Network Details within a few minutes of a successful API call. If it does not appear immediately, wait two to three minutes, hard-refresh the browser, and check again. If this doesn't resolve it
Work through the following before contacting support:
-
Device was offline during the API call: Check the Activity Feed for a
FailedorPendingstatus. Retry the API call while the device is online and confirm it returns aSuccessfulentry. - Telemetry has not yet synced: Wait three to five minutes, then hard-refresh the browser and recheck Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Overview → Network Details.
- Access point still missing after a successful call: The device may not have processed the command. Reboot the device and check Network Details again after it comes back online.
If the Activity Feed shows Successful, the device is online, and the access point still does not appear in Network Details after following all steps above, contact Esper Support. Provide the following when you reach out:
- Device serial number
- The full API request payload
- The Activity Feed timestamp for the operation
Still need help?
