The Airwave Agent is the software component that facilitates over-the-air (OTA) updates on Airwave-enabled devices. The Agent itself is not the OTA update. It manages and applies updates that Esper or the OEM makes available.
Before a new Airwave Agent build can reach devices, it must be signed by the device OEM with the same platform keys as the build running on the device, and approved in the Airwave console.
Uploading the Unsigned Agent Build
Step 1: In the Airwave console, navigate to Agent Builds.
Step 2: Esper uploads the unsigned Airwave Agent APK. Your Esper contact may also provide this APK to you directly.
Getting the APK Signed
Step 3: Download the unsigned APK from Agent Builds.
Step 4: Send the APK to the device OEM (or sign it directly, if you are the OEM) to have it signed with the platform key.
Uploading the Signed APK
Step 5: In the Airwave console, click on Upload Signed APK.
Step 6: Confirm the signed APK is matched to the correct unsigned Airwave Agent build. Esper auto-detects this match and displays the corresponding version name and version code.
Step 7: Click on Next.
Step 8: Select the Device Model you're signing for. Choose the device model that uses the same signing key as the uploaded APK.
Step 9: Click on Next.
Step 10: Optionally, enter Release Notes describing what's in the signed build.
Step 11: Review the upload summary, then click on Upload APK.
Approving the APK
Step 12: Repeat the signing and upload process for each device model that needs the new Agent version.
Step 13: Once all required device models have a signed APK, approve the APK in the Airwave console. You can approve models individually or use the Approve All bulk option for eligible signed models.
Once approved, devices receive the new Airwave Agent version at their next check-in window. Esper devices check in for updates every 24 hours.
