Blueprint creation blocked: user has Group Admin role, not Enterprise Admin — contact tenant admin to grant access
Android
If you're unable to create or edit Blueprints in the Esper Console, your user account may have Group Admin role instead of Enterprise Admin role. This article explains how to resolve this access limitation.
Understanding Blueprint permissions
Blueprint creation and editing are restricted to users with Enterprise Admin role on your tenant. If you have Group Admin role, you can apply existing Blueprints to Devices & Groups you manage, but you cannot create new Blueprints or modify Blueprint configurations.
How to check your user role
To verify your role:
- Log in to the Esper Console.
- Click your profile icon or navigate to Account Settings.
- Look for a role indicator that shows your current access level.
If you see "Group Admin" listed, you'll need to request an upgrade to create or edit Blueprints.
How to get Enterprise Admin access
Contact an Enterprise Admin on your tenant. They can either:
- Upgrade your role to Enterprise Admin: They can navigate to Account Settings → User Management → [Your Name] → Edit → Role → Enterprise Admin → Save.
- Create or edit the Blueprint for you: If full admin access isn't appropriate for your role, an Enterprise Admin can create or modify the Blueprint on your behalf.
If you don't know who the Enterprise Admins are on your tenant, ask your account manager or a colleague in your IT department.
Refreshing your console access
After your role has been upgraded:
- Log out of the Esper Console completely.
- Wait a few seconds, then log back in.
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → Blueprints.
- You should now see the Create Blueprint button.
What if the issue persists?
If you still cannot see the Blueprint creation option after logging out and back in:
- Confirm that an Enterprise Admin has saved your role change in Account Settings → User Management.
- Ask the Enterprise Admin to verify your role is set to Enterprise Admin, not Group Admin.
- Try clearing your browser cache and logging in again from a different browser or device.
If no one on your tenant has Enterprise Admin role (for example, if the original admin has left your organization), contact Esper Support and we can help reassign admin roles.
Still need help?
If you've completed these steps and still cannot create Blueprints, or if you have questions about user roles and permissions, submit a support ticket and include your tenant name and user email address.
