OS Update Shows "No Updates Available" on MicroTouch Android Device: contact Esper Support
Android
If your MicroTouch Android device shows "No updates available" in Settings even though you expect a newer OS version to be available, this typically means the device manufacturer's update server isn't offering that build to your device. Learn how to check update status and when to contact the device manufacturer.
Before you begin
OS updates on managed devices are controlled by the device manufacturer's update servers, not by Esper. Esper can apply and schedule updates that the manufacturer makes available through their OTA (over-the-air) update channel, but cannot push firmware versions that the manufacturer isn't serving to your specific device.
Update availability depends on:
- Your device's hardware revision
- The update channel your device is enrolled in
- What the manufacturer has published to their OTA server
Step 1: Check the current OS version in Esper Console
- Open the Esper Console and go to Devices & Groups → Device Name → Device Details.
- Note the current Android version, build number, and software version displayed.
Step 2: Check for available updates on the device
- On your device, navigate to Settings → About Device → Software Updates.
- Tap to initiate an OTA (over-the-air) update check.
- If the result is "No updates available," the manufacturer's update server is not offering a newer build to your device at this time.
Step 3: Verify through Esper Console OS Update channel
- In the Esper Console, navigate to Devices & Groups → Your Group → OS Update.
- Check whether any OS update payloads are staged there for your device group.
- If no updates appear in this view, the manufacturer has not published updates through the Esper-integrated channel.
Step 4: Contact the device manufacturer if an update is needed
If you require a newer OS version and the OTA check returns no available updates:
- Contact MicroTouch support directly. Provide your device's hardware revision and current build number (from Step 1).
- Ask MicroTouch which update channel your device is enrolled in and whether a newer build is available for your hardware revision.
- Confirm whether the update will be made available through the OTA channel or if a manual firmware flash is required.
Step 5: If rolling out to multiple devices
If you plan to deploy the same update to multiple MicroTouch devices:
- Test the OTA check on each device individually—update availability may differ across hardware revisions even within the same model.
- Before confirming feasibility at scale, verify with the manufacturer that the update will be served to all your target hardware revisions.
Step 6: Verify the update after it's applied
- Once the manufacturer publishes the update or you complete a manual firmware flash, check the device's Settings → About Device to confirm the new build number appears.
- Verify the updated build also appears in the Esper Console under Devices & Groups → Device Name → Device Details.
