Post-provisioning device management and provisioning method selection for new Esper customers
Android
After you provision a device with Esper, you can manage and deploy apps remotely without physical access. This article explains how to manage provisioned devices, set up Zero-Touch Enrollment for new devices, and use remote access features.
How to deploy apps to a provisioned device
Once your device is provisioned and the Esper Agent is running, you can deploy applications and configurations remotely over the air. The device does not need to be physically present — as long as it's online, all changes are delivered automatically.
- Ensure your target device is online and visible in the Esper Console with an active status.
- To deploy an application:
- Navigate to Apps & Configuration in the Esper Console.
- Select the application you want to deploy.
- Click Deploy and select your target device or device group.
- The Esper Agent downloads and installs the app automatically.
- To push a configuration or policy change:
- Navigate to Blueprints and open the relevant Blueprint.
- Make your required changes (kiosk settings, managed configs, policies, etc.).
- Click Publish.
- The updated Blueprint converges to all devices assigned to it.
- Verify deployment by going to Devices & Groups → [Device Name]. Confirm the app appears in the installed app list and that the Blueprint compliance status shows as converged or compliant.
How to set up Zero-Touch Enrollment for new devices
If you need to provision devices at scale without scanning QR codes physically, use one of these zero-touch methods:
- Google Zero-Touch Enrollment (ZTE): Contact your device reseller and request that device IMEIs be added to your Google Zero-Touch portal. Devices automatically enroll into your Esper tenant during first-boot setup. See Zero-Touch Enrollment setup for more details.
- Knox Mobile Enrollment (KME): For Samsung devices, have your reseller add devices to KME. Devices auto-enroll the same way as ZTE.
- Seamless Provisioning: This method requires Esper to be embedded in the device firmware by the OEM at the manufacturing level. Contact Esper Sales to discuss OEM partnerships if you need this capability.
After setting up ZTE or KME, power on a test device and confirm it auto-enrolls into your Esper tenant without requiring manual QR code scanning.
How to use remote access to manage provisioned devices
You can view or control a provisioned device remotely through the Esper Console.
- Navigate to Devices & Groups in the Esper Console.
- Select the target device.
- Click Remote Viewer for view-only access, or Remote Control for interactive control (if your device hardware and Android version support it).
- A live screen session from the device appears in your console browser window.
Troubleshooting
App not installing remotely
Confirm the device is online (green status in console). If the device is offline, the deployment command queues and executes when the device reconnects.
Blueprint not converging
Check Devices & Groups → [Device Name] to verify the correct Blueprint is assigned. Look for any compliance conflicts that might prevent convergence.
Remote Viewer unavailable
Some device models do not support remote control due to hardware or Android version limitations. Check your device specifications, or contact Esper Support with your device model and Android version.
Seamless Provisioning not saving in console
Seamless Provisioning only works if your OEM has embedded the Esper Agent in the device firmware. Confirm with Esper Sales whether your OEM has an active Seamless Provisioning agreement. If not, Esper can help coordinate with your OEM.
