Exiting Kiosk Mode on-device is not supported — switch to Multi-App Mode via Blueprint to restore full app access
Android
You cannot exit Kiosk Mode directly from your device. Kiosk Mode is enforced by Esper's device policy and can only be changed by updating your Blueprint from the Esper Console. This article explains how to switch to Multi-App Mode or change your kiosk application.
Before you begin
To change your device's mode, you need access to the Esper Console and must have permission to edit and publish Blueprints. Your device should be online to receive the policy update.
How to switch from Kiosk Mode to Multi-App Mode
- Log in to the Esper Console.
- Go to Blueprints and open the Blueprint assigned to your device.
- Navigate to the Device Settings → Kiosk Mode section.
- Change the device mode from Kiosk Mode to Multi-App Mode.
- (Optional) If you want a specific app to launch when the device starts, enable Launch on Start for that application.
- Click Save, then Publish.
- Go to Devices & Groups, select your device, and click Converge to apply the updated Blueprint.
- Wait for the device to sync. You should then see the full launcher or your configured app list on the device.
How to change the kiosk application while remaining in Kiosk Mode
- Log in to the Esper Console.
- Go to Blueprints and open the Blueprint assigned to your device.
- Navigate to the Device Settings → Kiosk Mode section.
- Keep the mode as Kiosk Mode and select a different pinned application.
- Click Save, then Publish.
- Go to Devices & Groups, select your device, and click Converge to apply the change.
- The device will display the new kiosk application on its next startup.
Troubleshooting
The Blueprint did not apply and my device shows as Offline:
Your device must be online to receive the policy update. Ensure your device has network connectivity and try converging the Blueprint again. The update will be delivered once the device comes back online.
The device is online but the mode has not changed:
Check the convergence status for errors:
- Go to Devices & Groups and select your device.
- Click the Blueprint tab to view convergence status and any error messages.
- Review the Esper Agent version to confirm compatibility with your Blueprint settings.
I need to exit Kiosk Mode on an offline device:
There is no on-device or offline method to exit Kiosk Mode. Your device must be online and able to receive Blueprint updates from the Esper Console. If your device cannot be brought online, contact Esper Support for assistance.
