Disable Remote Viewer and Remote Terminal tenant-wide: submit backend request to Engineering
Android
This article explains how to disable Remote Viewer and Remote Terminal across your entire Esper tenant, including for Enterprise Admins. Because this is a tenant-wide restriction that cannot be configured through the Esper Console, you'll need to contact Esper Support to request this change.
Before you begin
First, confirm the scope of the restriction you need:
- Restricting specific non-admin users only: You can do this yourself using Custom Roles. See the "Restrict specific users using Custom Roles" section below.
- Restricting all users, including Enterprise Admins: Continue with the steps in this article.
Restrict specific users using Custom Roles
If you only need to disable Remote Viewer and Remote Terminal for specific users (not Enterprise Admins), you can create a Custom Role without these permissions and assign it to those users.
- In the Esper Console, go to Enterprise Settings → Roles.
- Click Create Custom Role.
- Configure the role permissions, making sure to exclude the Remote Viewer and Remote Terminal permissions.
- Assign this Custom Role to the users who should not have access to these features.
For detailed instructions, see Creating Custom Roles.
Note: Custom Roles cannot be applied to Enterprise Admin accounts. If you need to restrict Remote Viewer and Remote Terminal for all users, including Enterprise Admins, proceed to the next section.
Request a tenant-wide disable
To disable Remote Viewer and Remote Terminal for all users in your tenant, including Enterprise Admins, you must contact Esper Support to request a backend configuration change.
- Prepare the following information:
- Your tenant ID
- Confirmation that you want the restriction applied to all users, including Enterprise Admins
- Which features to disable: Remote Viewer, Remote Terminal, or both
- Your business justification (for example, security or compliance requirement)
- Whether this should apply to Linux devices, Android devices, or both
- Submit a support request to Esper Support with these details. Go to Submit a support ticket.
- Esper Support will coordinate with the engineering team to apply the backend configuration change to your tenant.
Verify the change
After Esper Support confirms the change has been applied, verify that:
- Remote Viewer is no longer accessible in the Esper Console for any user role, including Enterprise Admins.
- Remote Terminal is no longer accessible in the Esper Console for any user role, including Enterprise Admins.
If either feature is still accessible, contact Esper Support again.
Re-enable these features
If you later need to re-enable Remote Viewer or Remote Terminal for your tenant, submit a support request with your request and tenant ID.
