Samsung Galaxy Watch (WearOS) enrollment via EDP fails at device query: ADB connects but EDP PIN prompt never appears
Android
This article helps you troubleshoot Samsung Galaxy Watch enrollment failures when using the Esper Device Provisioner (EDP) over Wi-Fi. It covers scenarios where ADB connects successfully but the PIN prompt never appears during device query.
Before you begin
Be aware that Wear OS devices, including Samsung Galaxy Watch models, are not officially validated Esper platforms. Enrollment may work partially, but full device management features (Kiosk Mode, Blueprint, Remote Viewer, and others) cannot be guaranteed.
If you're looking to enroll a Samsung Galaxy Watch, Samsung Knox integration is the recommended approach over the Esper Device Provisioner. Contact Esper Support to discuss Knox-based enrollment options.
Step 1: Put your watch into standalone mode
If you're using a Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 with Wear OS 6 or One UI 8, bypass phone pairing to enable standalone enrollment:
- Power on the watch and wait for the "Welcome" or "Let's Go" pairing screen.
- Locate the Wear icon (planet or watch symbol) on the screen.
- Tap the icon 5–6 times rapidly.
- Immediately after the final tap, press and hold the icon for approximately 3 seconds.
- When the "Hide" or "Standalone setup" prompt appears, scroll to the bottom.
- Select "Here" or "Continue" to proceed without a phone.
Note: This tap sequence is specific to Galaxy Watch 8. Other watch models or OS versions may require different steps.
Step 2: Enable ADB over Wi-Fi on your watch
- On your watch, go to Settings → Developer Options.
- Enable ADB debugging.
- Enable Debug over Wi-Fi (or Wireless debugging, depending on your OS version).
- Note the IP address and port number displayed on your watch screen.
Step 3: Verify ADB connectivity
Before launching EDP, confirm that ADB can connect to your watch from your provisioning computer:
adb connect <watch-ip>:<port>
adb devices
The watch should appear in the device list as device (not unauthorized). If it shows unauthorized, check your watch screen for a prompt to allow the connection.
Step 4: Attempt EDP provisioning
Follow the standard enrollment steps in the Esper Device Provisioner documentation.
EDP should display your watch in its device query list and prompt you to confirm a PIN. If the PIN prompt does not appear and EDP fails at the query stage, proceed to the troubleshooting steps below.
Troubleshooting: EDP fails at device query with no PIN prompt
If the PIN confirmation prompt never appears and EDP fails during device query, this is a known compatibility issue between EDP and Wear OS devices. Try the following alternatives:
- Use Samsung Knox enrollment instead: For Samsung Galaxy Watch devices, Samsung Knox is the recommended provisioning path. It provides more reliable integration with Galaxy Watch hardware. Contact Esper Support to set up Knox-based enrollment.
- Try USB-based EDP enrollment: If your watch supports USB connectivity (via adapter), attempt EDP provisioning over USB instead of Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi ADB pairing behavior on Wear OS may differ from standard Android.
- Evaluate Samsung Knox standalone: If your primary use case is Kiosk Mode or single-app lockdown, Samsung Knox alone may meet your requirements while you explore full Esper compatibility.
Still need help?
If the troubleshooting steps above don't resolve your enrollment issue, submit a support ticket with the following information:
- ADB
bugreportoutput from your watch - EDP logs from your provisioning computer
- Exact Wear OS and One UI build numbers (go to Settings → About Watch on your device)
- Your watch model and any steps you've already tried
