Siyata SD7 "Initializing" screen stuck on Android 9: FOTA update to Android 12 must be authorized by Siyata directly
Android
If your Siyata SD7 device is stuck on an "Initializing" screen while running Android 9, you may need to coordinate a firmware update with Siyata directly. This article explains why this happens and how to resolve it.
Before you begin
The "Initializing" screen on Siyata SD7 devices running Android 9 is a known firmware issue that requires an update to Android 12. However, this update cannot be initiated from your device alone—Siyata must first authorize the firmware on their backend system.
Step 1: Check device readiness
Before attempting any update, verify your device meets these requirements:
- Battery charge is at least 30% (the device will not process updates below this level)
- Device has strong LTE signal (4 bars) or is connected to Wi-Fi (recommended for large firmware downloads)
Step 2: Check for available firmware on your device
- On your Siyata SD7, press down on the Rotary Dial to enter the device menu.
- Scroll to System and press the Rotary Dial.
- Scroll to FOTA Update and press the Rotary Dial.
- Look for a "Checking New Version" screen, followed by a prompt like
New Firmware: D7BLQL15APR5SU - Click Download.
If no update is offered, the firmware has not yet been authorized by Siyata on their backend system. Continue to Step 3.
Step 3: Contact Siyata to authorize the firmware update
Reach out to Siyata directly and request that they authorize the Android 12 firmware for your devices. Provide them with:
- The serial numbers or IMEIs of the affected SD7 devices
- A request to authorize or push the Android 12 firmware (such as
D7BLQL15APR5SU) from their backend system
Once Siyata confirms server-side authorization, proceed to Step 4.
Step 4: Retry the firmware update on your device
After Siyata authorizes the update, repeat the steps in Step 2. Your device should now display the available firmware version with a Download prompt. Download and install the firmware. Your device will reboot into Android 12, and the "Initializing" screen should no longer appear.
If the issue persists
- Update authorized but not detected: Verify your device has active internet connectivity and retry the on-device FOTA menu check in Step 2.
- "Initializing" screen still appears after upgrade: Contact Esper Support. This may indicate an enrollment-related issue.
- Incorrect apps appear after upgrade: Go to Devices & Groups → [Device] → Blueprint and apply the correct blueprint to your device.
Still need help?
If you've completed these steps and your device is still stuck on the "Initializing" screen, submit a support ticket and include the device serial number, current firmware version, and any error messages you've seen.
