Cellular data usage visibility in Esper console: limited to device graph only; no per-app or exportable report available
Android
Esper's console provides limited cellular data usage visibility. This article explains what data usage information is available and how to access it.
Understanding data usage visibility in Esper
The Esper Console displays cellular data consumption as a graph within each device's details view. However, the current platform does not offer:
- Per-app data usage breakdown
- Exportable data usage reports (CSV or similar formats)
- API endpoints for programmatic data access
If you need detailed per-app data usage reporting, contact Esper Support to submit a feature request.
How to view device-level data usage
- In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups.
- Select your target device.
- Navigate to the Telemetry or Device Graph section.
- Review the cellular data usage graph displayed for that device.
This graph shows device-level consumption only and does not support date-range filtering or per-app breakdowns.
Troubleshooting: Data Usage graph is blank or empty
If the cellular data graph is not populating:
- Verify the device has an active cellular connection and is not in offline mode.
- Confirm the device is properly connected to Esper's telemetry service.
- Allow a few minutes for data to populate after device enrollment or reconnection.
Troubleshooting: Data Usage is greyed out in Android Settings
If the native Android Data Usage option appears greyed out or disabled on your managed device, this may be caused by a Blueprint policy or kiosk mode configuration that restricts access to Settings.
Step 1: Check your Blueprint configuration
- In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups → [Your Device Name] → Blueprint.
- Review the active Blueprint for any restrictions under Device Settings or Kiosk configuration.
- Check whether System Settings access is restricted.
Step 2: Remove or modify the restriction
If you find a restriction blocking Settings access:
- Create a modified Blueprint without that restriction and apply it to the device, or
- Whitelist the Settings path if the device is in kiosk mode.
Step 3: Verify the fix
- Wait for the Blueprint changes to apply to the device (typically a few minutes).
- On the device, navigate to Settings → Network & Internet → Data Usage.
- Confirm the option is no longer greyed out.
Still need help?
If the data usage graph remains blank after verifying device connectivity, or if greyed-out Settings persist after modifying your Blueprint, contact Esper Support. include:
- Device model and Android OS version
- Esper Agent version (available in Settings → About → Esper Agent on the device)
- Screenshots of the issue
- Your active Blueprint configuration
