Play Store apps stuck on "Awaiting installation of app(s) from Google Play": MGP silent install latency vs. Esper convergence failure

If Play Store apps remain stuck in an "Awaiting installation of app(s) from Google Play" state after your Blueprint converges, this is typically caused by a delay in Google's silent installation queue, not a failure in Esper. Follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Understand the issue

When you add Managed Google Play apps to a Blueprint with the installation rule set to "During Provisioning", the Esper Agent completes its convergence cycle normally and sends the installation request to Google Play. However, Google's silent install queue may take additional time to fulfill the request. The "Awaiting installation of app(s) from Google Play" status means Esper is waiting on Google's infrastructure, not that Esper has failed.

How to resolve the issue

In the Esper Console, navigate to Blueprints → [Blueprint Name] → Apps.
For each affected Managed Google Play application, locate the Installation Rule setting.
Change the installation rule from "During Provisioning" to "Post Provisioning".
Save the Blueprint.
Re-apply the Blueprint to the affected device(s): navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint → Apply.
Wait for the Esper Agent to report convergence success, then allow 15–20 minutes for Google's silent installation to complete.
Verify the app was installed by navigating to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps and confirming the application appears with status Installed.

Important: Ensure any previous convergence operation has reached a terminal state (Success or Failed) before initiating a new convergence. Do not trigger re-convergence while a prior operation is still in progress.

If the issue persists

If apps remain stuck even with the "Post Provisioning" installation rule and after extended wait time, verify the following:

Check that the Managed Google Play / Managed Google Play binding for your enterprise is active and healthy. In the Esper Console, navigate to Console → Enterprise Settings → Managed Google Play.
Confirm the app is approved and visible in the Managed Google Play iFrame within Esper. Unapproved apps will not silently install.
Verify the device has an active internet connection and can reach Google Play servers.
Pull Esper Agent logs via ADB to confirm the agent completed convergence and passed the install instruction to Play:

Important: Do not change your Managed Google Play account email

Do not change the email address associated with your Managed Google Play account. Updating the EMM-linked Google account can sever the Managed Google Play enterprise association, breaking app availability, silent install capability, and potentially requiring full re-enrollment of all managed devices.
