Tenant deleted after inactivity — no recovery possible; factory reset devices to remove Esper management
Android
If you're unable to access your Esper tenant and receive a "tenant not found" error, your account may have been deleted due to inactivity. Once a tenant is deleted, it cannot be recovered. This article explains how to confirm deletion and how to remove Esper management from your devices.
Confirm your tenant has been deleted
Try logging in to your Esper Console at https://<tenant-name>.esper.cloud. If the URL is unreachable or returns an error, your tenant has been permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
Esper automatically deletes tenants that meet one or more of these criteria:
- No console access or device activity for an extended period (typically 6 months or longer)
- No active paid contract associated with the account
- Trial or prospect-tier accounts with no commercial relationship
Once deleted, all associated data—device enrollments, Blueprints, app configurations, groups, and user accounts—is permanently destroyed with no recovery option.
Remove Esper management from your devices
Devices that were enrolled in your deleted tenant remain physically operational but are now unmanageable. You must factory reset each device to remove Esper management and restore the device to its factory default state.
Option A: Factory reset via Esper Settings app
If the Esper Settings app is still accessible on your device:
- Open the Esper Settings app on the device
- Navigate to the factory reset option within the app
- Initiate the reset
Option B: Hardware factory reset
If the Esper Settings app is not accessible, perform a hardware factory reset using your device manufacturer's recommended procedure:
- Consult your device manufacturer's documentation for exact steps (procedures typically involve a combination of power and volume key presses in recovery mode)
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions to complete the factory reset
Verify the reset completed successfully
After the factory reset completes, verify that:
- The device boots to its out-of-box or factory default state
- the Esper Agent app is no longer present
- The device is no longer attempting to connect to any Esper endpoint
If the device is kiosk-locked
If your device is kiosk-locked and neither Esper Settings nor a hardware factory reset is accessible, you'll need to contact your device manufacturer (OEM) directly for advanced reset procedures. Different manufacturers offer different methods—for example, Qualcomm-based devices may support EDL mode, or your OEM may offer specialized service tools.
Re-engage with Esper on a paid contract
If you want to restart your Esper management on a new paid contract, contact the Esper Sales team. A new tenant will need to be provisioned from scratch, and no historical data from your deleted tenant can be recovered.
