Bluetooth Pairing Banner Interactive Timeout Not Applying via Blueprint: Supervisor Plugin Required
Android
When the Bluetooth pairing banner Interactive Timeout is configured in a Blueprint, the banner ignores the setting and collapses on its own schedule instead of staying visible for the configured duration.
Why this happens
The Interactive Timeout setting inside Accessibility JSON Settings relies on the Esper Supervisor Plugin to write system-level configuration that standard app permissions cannot access. If the Supervisor Plugin is not installed on the device, Android silently accepts the Blueprint payload but never applies the value, so the banner behaves as if no timeout was set.
Step 1: Check whether the Supervisor Plugin is already installed
- Open the Esper Console and go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps.
- Search the installed apps list for Supervisor Plugin.
- If it appears as installed, skip to Step 3: Re-apply your Blueprint.
- If it is not listed, continue to Step 2.
Step 2: Install the Supervisor Plugin
The Supervisor Plugin must be signed with your device OEM's platform keys before it can be installed. Standard APK signing is not sufficient — only the OEM can apply system-level signing. Work through the following sequence:
- Contact Esper Support and provide your device model and OEM firmware version. Esper will supply an unsigned Supervisor Plugin build matched to your device.
- Send the unsigned plugin to your device OEM and request that they sign it using their platform keys. Your OEM's build or security team handles this step — Esper cannot perform it on your behalf.
- Once your OEM returns the signed plugin, send it back to Esper Support. Esper will upload it to your account backend.
- After the upload completes, the plugin installs automatically on enrolled devices during the next sync cycle. No manual action is required on the device.
- Confirm installation by returning to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps and verifying that Supervisor Plugin now appears as installed.
Step 3: Re-apply your Blueprint
- In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint.
- Click Apply Blueprint to push a fresh sync to the device. A re-sync is required even if the Blueprint was previously applied, because the plugin was not present when the original payload was delivered.
- Wait for the sync status to update before testing.
Step 4: Verify the setting is working
Verify: Trigger a Bluetooth pairing request on the device. The pairing banner should remain visible for exactly the duration set in the Interactive Timeout value in your Accessibility JSON Settings, then collapse into the status bar. The device's Blueprint status in Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint should show In Sync within 5 minutes of applying.
If this doesn't resolve it
If the Supervisor Plugin is installed and the Blueprint shows In Sync but the banner timeout still does not apply, collect the following before contacting support:
- Device model and OEM firmware version
- Installed Supervisor Plugin version (visible in Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps)
- The exact Accessibility JSON Settings block from your Blueprint
- A screen recording or timestamped description of the banner behavior
If OEM platform key signing is not available for your device fleet, contact Esper Support to discuss alternative configuration approaches for your specific hardware.
Still need help?
If the Bluetooth pairing banner timeout still isn't applying after ensuring the Supervisor plugin is installed, submit a support ticket and include your Blueprint configuration, device model, and Esper agent version.
