Google Play Store shows "no apps available" with work account despite Managed Google Play disabled in Blueprint: toggle Managed Google Play on/off to reset Play state
Android
If your device shows "There are no apps available" in the Google Play Store even though Managed Google Play Services is disabled in your Blueprint, you can fix this by toggling the Managed Google Play setting off and on. This article explains how.
Before you begin
This issue typically occurs when:
- Your device is enrolled with Esper
- Control Managed Google Play Services is disabled in your Blueprint
- You're signing in with a Google Workspace (work/corporate) account
- Your device previously had Managed Google Play enabled
How to fix this
- In the Esper Console, navigate to Blueprints and open the Blueprint applied to your device.
- Find the Google Play or Managed Google Play Services section.
- Enable the Control Managed Google Play Services toggle.
- Save and publish the Blueprint.
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint and apply the updated Blueprint. Wait for convergence to complete.
- Return to the Blueprint and disable the Control Managed Google Play Services toggle.
- Save and publish the Blueprint again.
- Go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint and converge the device again. Wait for convergence to complete.
- On your device, open the Google Play Store and sign in with your work or personal Google account.
- Verify that the Play Store now displays the full app catalog and the "no apps available" message is gone.
If this doesn't work
Check your Google Workspace domain settings: If you're using a Google Workspace account and the issue persists, your domain administrator may have MDM or enterprise restrictions enabled in the Google Admin Console (outside of Esper). Ask your administrator to review these settings.
Use Managed Google Play as a workaround: If the toggle cycle doesn't resolve the issue, you can keep Control Managed Google Play Services enabled and approve apps manually. Navigate to Apps → Play Store in the Esper Console, approve the apps you need, and verify they appear on the device.
Collect diagnostic information: If the problem continues, generate a bug report from Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Bug Report. This can help identify persistent enterprise enrollment settings.
Still need help?
If you've tried these steps and the issue persists, contact Esper Support and include your device name, Blueprint configuration, and any bug reports you've collected.
