Account Cancellation and Full Deletion: Process and Pre-Deletion Checklist
Android
When you need to permanently close your Esper account, all device data, compliance history, app data, and device logs are deleted and cannot be recovered. This process requires completing several steps in the correct order to ensure no devices are left in a managed or kiosk-locked state after your account is gone.
Why this happens
Esper accounts are not self-serve deletable because managed devices must be cleanly released from supervision before the account is removed. Skipping the device offboarding steps leaves devices locked in a managed state with no way to recover them once the account no longer exists. Subscription billing is also handled separately from the console account, so both must be closed independently.
Before you begin
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Confirm the following before proceeding:
- All device data, telemetry, app data, compliance history, and device logs will be permanently deleted and are unrecoverable.
- Your account cannot be restored. If you use Esper again in the future, you must create a new account from scratch.
- Your active subscription billing must be cancelled separately. Deleting your console account does not automatically cancel your contract. Contact your account team to confirm subscription cancellation before proceeding.
Steps
-
Factory reset all managed devices before removing them from the Esper Console. This releases each device from supervised management and prevents it from remaining locked in kiosk or managed mode after your account is deleted.
- Via the Esper Console: Go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Factory Reset.
- Manually on the device: If remote access is unavailable — for example, the device is offline, bricked, or in kiosk mode — use the device's physical button combination to perform a hardware factory reset. Refer to your device manufacturer's documentation for the exact steps.
-
Remove all devices from the Esper Console. After each device has been factory reset, delete it from your console so the account has zero enrolled devices before you request deletion.
- Go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name].
- Select Remove Device.
- If a device has not yet been factory reset, select Wipe + Remove instead to combine both actions.
- Confirm your subscription cancellation with your account team. Contact your Esper account team and confirm in writing that your subscription has been cancelled or request that they cancel it now. Do not skip this step — account deletion does not stop billing automatically.
-
Request account deletion from Esper Support. Once all devices are removed and your subscription cancellation is confirmed, contact Esper Support and include the following in your request:
- Confirmation that all devices have been removed from the Esper Console.
- Confirmation that your subscription has been cancelled, or a request for your account team to cancel it simultaneously.
- Written acknowledgment that you understand account deletion is irreversible.
Verify: After Esper Support confirms your account has been deleted, attempt to log in at your Esper Console URL. You should receive a login failure or 404 error, confirming the account no longer exists. If you can still log in 24 hours after receiving confirmation from Esper Support, follow up immediately.
If this doesn't resolve it
If you are still being billed after account deletion is confirmed, contact your account team immediately and provide the date you received deletion confirmation from Esper Support. Billing is managed outside the console and requires a separate cancellation action.
If devices cannot be factory reset remotely because they are offline or in a locked kiosk state, perform a hardware factory reset using the device's physical button combination. Refer to your device manufacturer's documentation for specific instructions, as the button combination varies by model.
For any other issues during this process, contact Esper Support and provide your console URL, the number of devices remaining in your account, and any error messages encountered.
