Google Play Store missing post-provisioning on rk3576_u devices
Android
If you're provisioning an rk3576_u device and the Google Play Store is missing after enrollment, or you see an "Android setup won't run" error when trying to add it, follow these steps to resolve the issue.
Before you begin
Verify that your device is GMS-certified. Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Device Info and confirm the GMS status. If your device is not GMS-certified, the Google Play Store cannot be provisioned.
How to fix the missing Google Play Store
- Reboot the device — Power-cycle the device completely (not just restart the Esper Agent). Wait 2–3 minutes for all Google Mobile Services to reinitialize, then check if the Play Store appears and is functional.
- Factory reset and re-provision — If the reboot doesn't resolve the issue, perform a factory reset from the device hardware and re-attempt provisioning using the MRM Scheduler template. Do not interrupt the provisioning process while it's running.
- Try adding Play Store from the Esper Console — Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps and attempt to push the Google Play Store. Note any error messages you see.
- Capture a bug report if the issue persists — If the Play Store is still missing after re-provisioning, pull a bug report immediately after the provisioning attempt by going to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Bug Report. You'll need this if you contact support.
How to verify the fix worked
The issue is resolved when the Google Play Store is visible and launchable on the device, and the device status in the Esper Console shows as Online with no pending provisioning actions.
What if the issue persists across multiple devices
If the problem continues after factory reset and re-provisioning on multiple rk3576_u devices:
- Check whether other rk3576_u devices in your organization provisioned successfully. If they did, the issue may be isolated to specific units.
- If all rk3576_u devices in your organization are affected, this indicates a device-model-level issue that requires investigation by Esper engineering.
Still need help?
If you've completed the steps above and the issue persists, contact Esper Support. include the bug report you captured and note the Android OS version and firmware build number of your device.
