Spacebar key non-functional in Esper Console search/filter fields: clear browser cache or use Incognito mode to restore input
Android
If the spacebar key isn't working in Esper Console search or filter fields, this is usually caused by a browser cache conflict or extension interference. Follow these steps to restore normal keyboard input.
Before you begin
This issue only affects the Esper Console in your browser—it doesn't impact your managed devices or the Esper Agent. The spacebar works normally in other applications and websites.
Step 1: Test in Incognito mode
- Open the Esper Console in an Incognito or Private browsing window:
- Chrome: Press
Ctrl+Shift+N(Windows) orCmd+Shift+N(Mac) - Firefox: Press
Ctrl+Shift+P(Windows) orCmd+Shift+P(Mac)
- Chrome: Press
- Go to Devices & Groups
- Click the search or filter field and try typing a space character
- If the spacebar works in Incognito mode, your browser cache or an extension is causing the issue. Continue to Step 2.
Step 2: Clear your browser cache
A cached version of the Esper Console from before an update can interfere with keyboard input.
Chrome:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Delete(Windows) orCmd+Shift+Delete(Mac) - Select All time from the time range dropdown
- Check both Cached images and files and Cookies and other site data
- Click Clear data
Firefox:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Delete(Windows) orCmd+Shift+Delete(Mac) - Select the same cache and cookie options
- Click Clear Now
Step 3: Reload and test
- Close your Incognito window
- Return to your normal browser window and reload the Esper Console
- Go to Devices & Groups → Search/filter field
- Test typing a multi-word search string with spaces
- Confirm that the spacebar input registers and matching devices are returned
Step 4: Check browser extensions (if issue persists)
Certain browser extensions—such as ad blockers, custom keyboard managers, or password managers—can intercept spacebar input.
- Open your browser's extension or add-ons menu
- Disable all extensions one at a time
- After disabling each extension, reload the Esper Console and test the spacebar in the search field
- If the spacebar works after disabling a specific extension, you've found the culprit. You can uninstall it or configure it to exclude console.esper.io
Step 5: Test in a different browser
If the spacebar still doesn't work after clearing your cache and disabling extensions, try opening the Esper Console in a different browser (such as Edge or Firefox if you were using Chrome).
- If the issue only appears in one browser, it's specific to that browser's settings or extensions
- If the issue appears in all browsers, contact Esper Support with the information below
When contacting Esper Support
If the spacebar issue persists across multiple browsers and after clearing your cache provide the following information:
- A screen recording showing the spacebar failing in the Esper Console search field
- Your browser name and version (visit
chrome://version/or the equivalent in your browser) - Your operating system and version
- Confirmation of whether you use a managed browser policy (such as Chrome Browser Cloud Management)—if so, your IT administrator may need to review keyboard binding restrictions
Still need help?
If you've completed these steps and the spacebar still isn't working, submit a support ticket with the information listed above. The Esper Support team will investigate further.
