Custom wallpaper on Esper Launcher: end users cannot change wallpaper; configure via Blueprint in Esper Console
Android
When you use the Esper Launcher on your managed devices, end users cannot change the device wallpaper through Android Settings. Instead, you must configure wallpapers centrally through the Esper Console using Blueprints and apply them to your devices.
Why end users cannot change wallpaper
The Esper Launcher controls the home screen environment on managed devices. Because of this, the standard Android wallpaper picker is hidden and unavailable to end users. Wallpaper configuration is managed entirely through your Esper Console account, not by individual device users.
Before you begin
- You must have access to the Esper Console with permissions to edit Blueprints
- Prepare the image file(s) you want to use for the home screen and/or lock screen wallpaper
- Confirm the target device(s) are online and connected to your Esper account
How to configure wallpaper via Blueprint
- Log in to the Esper Console at your tenant URL (for example,
https://your-tenant.esper.io) - Navigate to Blueprints in the left-hand navigation menu
- Open an existing Blueprint that is applied to your target device(s), or create a new Blueprint
- In the Blueprint editor, locate the Branding section
- Upload your desired image file for Home Screen Wallpaper and/or Lock Screen Wallpaper
- Save the Blueprint
- Apply the Blueprint to your target device(s):
- For individual devices: go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint → Apply
- For multiple devices: apply the Blueprint at the group level
- Wait for the Blueprint to converge on the target device(s). The new wallpaper will appear automatically on the home screen and/or lock screen
Verify the wallpaper updated
- On the target device, check that the new wallpaper is displayed on the home screen and lock screen
- No action is required from the end user — the wallpaper updates automatically when the Blueprint is applied
Troubleshoot if the wallpaper does not update
The wallpaper does not appear after Blueprint application:
- Confirm the device is online and connected to your Esper account
- Check the Blueprint status: go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint Status and verify the Blueprint shows as applied (not pending or failed)
- If the Blueprint status shows an error, wait a few minutes and refresh, or manually trigger a Blueprint re-sync from the Esper Console
The Blueprint is applied but the wallpaper still does not show:
- Collect device logs to check for Blueprint application errors:
- Via ADB: run
adb shell logcat -dand review for errors related to wallpaper or Blueprint - Via Esper Console: go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Capture Logs and download the logs
- Via ADB: run
- Confirm your device is running a current and supported version of the Esper Agent
- Wallpaper availability may vary depending on your device OEM and Android firmware version
End users are asking to change wallpaper themselves:
The Esper Launcher does not support end-user wallpaper changes — this is by design. Wallpaper is an administrator-controlled setting. Only you can configure and push wallpapers to devices through the Esper Console.
