Blueprint convergence stuck on "Awaiting Installation of app(s) From Google Play": isolate offending Play app, remove from Blueprint, then re-converge
Android
If your device gets stuck on "Awaiting Installation of app(s) From Google Play" during Blueprint convergence, the issue is usually caused by a single app that cannot be installed on that device due to compatibility, region restrictions, or Google Play throttling. Follow these steps to identify the blocking app, remove it from your Blueprint, and resolve the convergence failure.
Before you begin
You'll need access to the Esper Console and permission to edit Blueprints. Have the device name and Blueprint name ready.
Step 1: Identify the blocking app
- In the Esper Console, navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Command History.
- Look for the failed convergence command and review the error message.
- The error message will list which app failed to install. Note the app name—this is your blocking app.
Step 2: Remove the blocking app from your Blueprint
- Navigate to Blueprints → [Blueprint Name] → Apps.
- Locate the app you identified in Step 1.
- Remove it from the app list and save your changes.
Step 3: Publish the updated Blueprint
- Publish the Blueprint to create a new version.
- Verify the new version appears in the Blueprint revision history.
Step 4: apply Blueprint again the device
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint.
- Click Converge to apply the updated Blueprint without the blocking app.
- Monitor the device status until it shows Converged.
Step 5: Verify convergence is clean
- Confirm the device now shows Converged status in Devices & Groups.
- Check that no other apps are stuck in a pending state.
Step 6: Test manual installation of the blocking app
- Navigate to Apps → Install New App.
- Search for the app you removed in Step 2.
- Initiate installation on the device.
- Monitor the device to see if the install completes or hangs again on "Awaiting installation of app from Google Play".
If the manual install also fails
If the app gets stuck during manual installation, the issue is specific to that app, device, and your Google Play region—not your Blueprint configuration. Common causes include:
- The app version is not compatible with your device's Android version, processor, or screen size
- The app is not available in your region
- Google Play is throttling the install (Google recommends waiting up to 24 hours before retrying)
In this case, you can either wait 24 hours and retry, or use an alternative app that meets your needs.
If convergence still fails after removing all Google Play apps
To isolate whether the issue is with Google Play delivery or your Blueprint pipeline, create a test Blueprint containing only private APK apps (non-Play Store apps). Apply this test Blueprint to the device. If it converges successfully, the problem is isolated to Managed Google Play delivery.
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, contact Esper Support and provide the following information:
- Device model and Android OS version
- Google Play Store version on the device
- The specific app package name and version code
- Esper Agent logs (available via ADB or device bug report)
- A device bug report
