Web app stuck on "Hide" and won't display in Kiosk mode: re-apply Blueprint with Show visibility and send Converge command
Android
When a web app is configured in a Blueprint but its visibility is set to Hide, the app does not appear on the device in Kiosk mode even after the Blueprint has been applied.
Why this happens
Web apps (webclips) respect the visibility setting defined in the Blueprint at the time the configuration is applied. If the visibility was set to Hide when the Blueprint last converged, the Esper Agent suppresses the app from the Kiosk launcher. Simply editing the Blueprint is not enough — the device must receive a fresh Converge command to pick up the updated setting.
Steps
-
Open the Blueprint assigned to the affected device.
In the Esper Console, navigate to Blueprints, then find and open the blueprint applied to the affected device or group. If you are unsure which blueprint is applied, go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Details and check the Blueprint field. -
Set the web app visibility to Show.
Inside the blueprint editor, go to the Apps section. Locate the web app (webclip) that is not displaying. Change its visibility from Hide to Show, then save the blueprint. Saving alone does not push the change to the device — the next step does. -
Send a Converge command to the device.
Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions and select Converge. This forces the device to re-apply the full Blueprint configuration, including the updated visibility setting. Wait for the command to complete before checking the device. -
Confirm the Converge command succeeded.
In Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Activity Feed, verify the Converge command shows a status of Success. A status of Queued means the device has not yet received the command; Failed means the agent encountered an error applying the configuration.
If this doesn't resolve it
Work through the following checks before contacting support:
- Confirm the webclip is correctly configured. In the Esper Console, go to Apps & Configuration → Web Apps and verify the webclip exists, the URL is correct, and the app is included in the Blueprint.
- Check for a conflicting Blueprint at the group level. A Blueprint applied to the group can override a device-level Blueprint. Go to Devices & Groups, select the group containing the device, and confirm the group-level Blueprint also has the web app visibility set to Show.
- Isolate whether the issue is specific to web apps. Add a standard Play Store app to the same Blueprint with visibility set to Show and send a Converge command. If the Play Store app appears but the web app does not, the issue is in the webclip configuration itself, not the Blueprint or Converge mechanism.
- Verify the device is online. A Converge command will remain in Queued status until the device reconnects. Check device connectivity in Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Details.
If the web app is still hidden after a confirmed successful Converge on an online device, contact Esper Support with the following information: device ID, Blueprint ID, Esper Agent version, a screenshot of the web app visibility setting in the Blueprint, and the Activity Feed entry for the Converge command.
Still need help?
If reapplying the Blueprint and sending the Converge command doesn't resolve the issue, please submit a support ticket and include your Blueprint configuration, the app package name, and the current visibility status shown in your device's Esper console.
