Remove Registration on offline devices: command queued but not executed — verify by bringing device online before assuming action completed
Android
When you remove registration from offline devices, the command is queued and won't execute until those devices come back online. This article explains how to verify command status, cancel pending commands if needed, and safely manage Remove Registration actions on offline devices.
Before you begin
The Remove Registration action removes a device from Esper management but does not factory reset it. If devices are offline when you issue this command, it enters a queued state and will execute when the device reconnects to the network. Always verify device online status before issuing this action.
How to verify if a Remove Registration command was executed
- Open the Esper Console and navigate to Devices & Groups.
- Check whether your affected devices are still listed. If they appear in the Esper Console, the Remove Registration command has not yet executed.
- Select a device and navigate to Device Details → Commands to view command history.
- Look for any Remove Registration command with a status of
QueuedorPending. This confirms the command is waiting for the device to come online.
How to cancel a pending Remove Registration command
- Verify the command status is
QueuedorPending(see steps above). - Check the Esper Console UI to see if a cancel option is available for the command. If cancellation is available, use it immediately.
- If no cancel option is visible in the UI, do not bring the devices online until the command is cleared. Contact Esper Support with the following information:
- Tenant ID
- Device serial numbers or IDs
- Group name
- Command ID (if visible)
How to test command delivery on a single device first
If you want to verify that a queued command will execute as expected, test with one device before bringing all devices online:
- Select one device from your affected group.
- Verify its command status is
QueuedorPending. - Navigate to the physical device and reconnect it to the network.
- Monitor the Esper Console and watch the device details page. The Remove Registration command should execute within a few minutes of reconnection.
- Confirm whether the test device remains listed in Devices & Groups (command was not delivered) or has been removed (command was delivered and executed).
- Use the result from this test device to inform your action on the remaining devices.
What to do if a device is removed unintentionally
If devices are removed from Esper management before you could cancel the command, you will need to re-provision them. Contact Esper Support immediately if this affects 10 or more devices. Provide:
- Tenant ID
- List of affected device serial numbers or IDs
- Group name
- Timestamp when Remove Registration was triggered
Key points to remember
- Offline devices queue commands: Any command issued to an offline device—including Remove Registration, Wipe, and Factory Reset—will queue and execute upon reconnection. Always confirm device online status before issuing irreversible actions.
- Verify before assuming action completed: A missing confirmation prompt or lack of immediate feedback does not mean the command has executed. Check device status and command history in the Esper Console.
- Test destructive actions: When possible, test a destructive command on a single device first to confirm behavior before applying it to your entire group.
Still need help?
If you are unable to cancel a pending command, devices were removed unintentionally, or you need further assistance, submit a support ticket. Include your tenant ID, affected device IDs, and the command ID if available.
