Battery Power Source and Status fields in Esper Console: what they mean and how to check charging state
Android
Title: Battery Power Source and Status in Esper Console — how to read charging stateWhen reviewing a device's power state in the Esper Console, two separate fields — Power Source and Battery Status — must be read together to determine whether the device is actually charging. Reading either field alone can be misleading.
Why this happens
Android reports power source and battery activity as independent values. A device can show Power Source: AC while simultaneously showing Battery Status: Discharging because the charger is supplying less power than the device is consuming. This is expected Android behavior, not a bug or a console error.
How to check the charging state
- Open the device overview. In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups and select the device you want to inspect.
- Expand the full telemetry panel. On the device overview page, click Show More at the top of the details panel. This reveals the complete set of reported device fields, including the Battery block.
-
Locate the Battery block and note both fields. Find Power Source and Battery Status side by side. The table below describes every possible value for each field.
Power Source values
- AC — Device is connected to a wall charger or AC adapter.
- USB — Device is connected via USB to a PC or USB power adapter.
- Wireless — Device is on a wireless charging pad.
- Unplugged or blank — No external power source is detected.
Battery Status values
- Charging — The battery is actively gaining charge.
- Full — The battery is connected to power and has reached full capacity.
- Discharging — The battery is losing charge. This occurs when the device is unplugged, or when it is plugged in but consuming more power than the charger supplies.
- Not Charging — The device is connected to power but the battery is not accepting charge. This commonly occurs near 100% capacity or when manufacturer charge-control settings are active.
-
Confirm active charging by checking both fields together. A device is confirmed to be charging only when both of the following are true:
- Power Source shows AC, USB, or Wireless
- Battery Status shows Charging or Full
Verify: After confirming both fields, the device overview should reflect Battery Status: Charging or Battery Status: Full alongside a connected Power Source value. Telemetry refreshes automatically; if the values appear stale, navigate away and return to the device page to force a reload.
If this doesn't resolve it
Battery fields are missing entirely
The Esper Agent may not be reporting battery telemetry. Confirm the Esper Agent is active and the device is online by checking the device status indicator in Devices & Groups. An offline device will not report any telemetry.
Console values do not match the physical device state
If the device appears to be charging physically but the Esper Console shows Discharging, collect the following before contacting support:
- A bug report from the device: go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Request Bug Report
- The device serial number
- A screenshot of the Battery block from the device overview
Contact Esper Support with these details so the issue can be investigated.
Historical or trend data is needed
For battery level trends over time, check the Activity Feed and Telemetry sections available on the device detail page in the Esper Console. Availability of historical data depends on your Esper plan.
