Smart Connect screen casting not opening on Moto G Power: set app state to "Launchable but Hidden"
Android
Title: Smart Connect won't open on Moto G Power — set app state to Launchable but HiddenWhen the app state for Smart Connect is set to Hidden in Esper, tapping Settings → Connected Devices → Smart Connect on a Moto G Power produces no response and the screen casting interface never opens.
Why this happens
Esper's Hidden app state prevents an app from launching through any means — including intents triggered by the native Android Settings UI. Because Smart Connect opens via an Android intent rather than a direct tap on a home screen icon, the Hidden state silently blocks the launch without displaying an error message.
Fix the app state in Esper Console
- Log in to the Esper Console and navigate to Apps & Configuration → Apps.
- Search for Smart Connect and open its configuration.
- Locate the App State setting. If it is set to Hidden, change it to Launchable but Hidden. This state allows the app to respond to Settings intents while keeping it off the device's home screen launcher.
- Save the change and apply the updated configuration to all affected devices or groups.
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint Status to confirm the configuration has synced to the device. Sync typically completes within 5 minutes when the device is online.
- On the device, open Settings → Connected Devices → Smart Connect to confirm the screen casting interface now opens.
Verify: The Smart Connect screen casting interface opens immediately when tapped in Settings. The device's Blueprint Status in Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint Status should show In Sync before testing.
If this doesn't resolve it
- Confirm the sync completed: In Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint Status, verify the status shows In Sync. If it shows a pending or error state, the app state change has not yet been applied to the device.
- Check for Blueprint conflicts: If the device belongs to a group with a Blueprint applied, confirm the Blueprint's app state setting for Smart Connect is also set to Launchable but Hidden. A group-level Blueprint can override device-level configuration changes.
- Verify Smart Connect is installed: On the device, go to Settings → Apps → See all apps and confirm Smart Connect appears. If it is absent, a previous policy may have disabled or removed it — re-add it through Apps & Configuration → Apps.
If Smart Connect still does not open after confirming all of the above, contact Esper Support. Collect the following before reaching out:
- Device serial number
- A bug report generated from Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Bug Report
- A screen recording showing the tap on Smart Connect in Settings and the lack of response
