Esper Settings hidden dock unreachable or Date & Time greyed out — Blueprint fix
Android
When accessing a device through Remote Viewer or checking system settings on the device itself, the Esper Settings dock may not appear, or Date & Time settings may appear greyed out and uneditable.
Why this happens
The Esper Settings dock is accessed through a precise tap target in the top-right corner of the screen — tapping slightly inward misses it. Date & Time settings are greyed out because the Blueprint currently applied to the device has the Edit Time & Date setting disabled; the policy actively prevents users and administrators from changing those settings at the device level until the Blueprint is updated.
Access the Esper Settings dock via Remote Viewer
- Open the Esper Console and navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Remote Viewer.
- Tap the extreme top-right corner of the screen 3–6 times in quick succession. The tap must land in the very corner pixel — tapping even a few pixels inward will not register.
- Confirm the hidden dock appears, then select Esper Settings from the dock menu.
If the dock does not appear after 6 taps, reposition your cursor to the furthest reachable point of the top-right corner and repeat. The tap target is intentionally small.
Unlock greyed-out Date & Time settings via Blueprint
- Navigate to Blueprints in the Esper Console and identify the blueprint currently applied to the device. The active blueprint is shown under Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint.
- Open that blueprint, select Clone, and give the clone a descriptive name (for example,
DeviceName-DateTimeEnabled). Cloning rather than editing the original preserves the existing policy for all other devices using it. - Open the cloned blueprint, navigate to the Esper Settings section, and enable Edit Time & Date.
- Save the cloned blueprint.
- Apply the cloned blueprint to this device only: navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint → Apply, select the cloned blueprint, and confirm.
- Wait for the blueprint status to show In Sync, then reboot the device from Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Reboot.
- Open Date & Time settings on the device and confirm the fields are now editable.
If Date & Time still does not persist after reboot
- NTP sync not enabled: In the cloned blueprint, confirm that Automatic Date/Time (NTP sync) is enabled. Without a reachable NTP source, the device may fall back to its internal hardware clock.
- Device resets to an incorrect date on every reboot (for example, always returning to January 1st or April 1st): this indicates a failing hardware real-time clock (RTC) battery. Contact the device manufacturer's support team for hardware service.
If this doesn't resolve it
Contact Esper Support with the following information:
- Device model and serial number
- Name of the blueprint applied to the device
- Screenshots of the greyed-out settings or Remote Viewer behavior
- Approximate date and time the issue first appeared
Still need help?
If the Settings app remains unreachable or Date & Time settings stay greyed out after applying the Blueprint fix, please submit a support ticket and include your Blueprint configuration, the devices affected, and whether the issue persists after a device restart.
