Esper Agent software update scheduling: not supported, use Deploy in Pipeline workaround
Android
Title: Esper Agent updates can't be scheduled — deploy manually via pipelineWhen you need to update the Esper Agent during a specific maintenance window, the Esper Console does not provide a way to schedule that update for a future date and time. The deployment must be triggered manually at the moment you want it to run.
Why this happens
Esper Software Updates supports scheduling for OS and firmware updates, but that scheduling capability does not extend to Esper Agent updates. Agent updates are only available through the Deploy in Pipeline workflow, which requires a manual trigger at the time of deployment. There is no automated or deferred execution for this workflow.
How to deploy an Esper Agent update during your maintenance window
- In the Esper Console, navigate to Esper Software Updates in the left navigation panel.
- Locate the Esper Agent version you want to deploy and select it. Reviewing the release notes for that version before proceeding confirms you are deploying the intended build.
- Click Deploy in Pipeline.
- Configure the pipeline by selecting the target devices or groups under Devices & Groups. Targeting a group rather than individual devices reduces the number of manual steps when rolling out to large fleets.
- At the start of your maintenance window, return to the pipeline and manually trigger the deployment. This action requires an admin or authorized user account.
- Monitor progress in the pipeline view. Each device's status updates in real time as the agent installs.
If this doesn't resolve it
If the pipeline fails, a device does not update, or you see an unexpected version in Device Info, collect the following before contacting support:
- The Esper Agent version you attempted to deploy
- The device name and serial number of any affected devices
- A screenshot of the pipeline status and any error messages shown
- The Activity Feed entries for the affected devices, found at Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Activity Feed
Contact Esper Support with this information and a description of the failure.
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
