Dark mode enabled on device with no Esper control: disable via Android Settings directly

If your device is displaying in dark mode and you can't find a toggle in the Esper Console, you'll need to disable it directly through Android Settings. This article walks you through the process.

Before you begin

Esper doesn't currently manage dark mode through Blueprints or device policies. Dark mode is controlled entirely by Android system settings on your device, so you'll need to change it manually.

How to disable dark mode

1. On your device, open the Settings app.
2. Navigate to Display.
3. Look for a Dark Theme or Dark Mode toggle and turn it OFF.
4. Verify that your device UI has switched to light mode. Lock and unlock your screen to confirm the change persists.

If the toggle isn't in Display settings

1. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open Quick Settings.
2. Look for a Dark Theme or Dark Mode tile.
3. Tap it to disable dark mode.
4. Verify the change persists after locking and unlocking your screen.

If you still don't see a dark mode option

Some devices with customized firmware may not expose dark mode controls in standard Android Settings. If neither the Settings menu nor Quick Settings show a dark mode option, your device's operating system build may not support standard dark mode controls.

If dark mode keeps re-enabling itself after reboot, check your installed apps to see if any application with display or theming permissions is programmatically controlling this setting.
