Remote Viewer quality unacceptable: update Esper Agent and switch network / enable Data Saver to improve
Android
If your Remote Viewer session is showing poor image quality, lag, or pixelation, try these troubleshooting steps. Most quality issues can be resolved by updating your Esper Agent, switching networks, or enabling Data Saver.
Before you begin
Remote Viewer quality depends on three factors: your Esper Agent version, your device's network connection, and your browser. Start with the simplest fix—updating your agent—then try network changes if needed.
Step 1: Update your Esper Agent
Older Esper Agent versions may have suboptimal video encoding. Updating to the latest version typically improves stream quality.
- In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps
- Find the Esper Agent app
- Tap the menu icon and select Update, or push the latest agent version through a Blueprint
- Wait for the update to complete, then restart your Remote Viewer session
Step 2: Switch to a different Wi-Fi network
Remote Viewer is bandwidth-sensitive. If your device is connected to a congested Wi-Fi access point (such as a shared corporate network), try switching to a different network with better signal or lower congestion.
- On your device, disconnect from your current Wi-Fi network
- Connect to an alternative network with stronger signal or lower congestion
- Open a new Remote Viewer session in the Esper Console and compare the quality
Step 3: Enable Data Saver in Remote Viewer
Data Saver reduces stream resolution and bitrate, which can stabilize the video stream on networks with limited bandwidth.
- In the Esper Console, open Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Remote Viewer
- In the Remote Viewer toolbar or settings panel, toggle Data Saver to ON
- Observe the stream for 30 seconds to see if stability improves
If quality issues persist
If you've completed the steps above and the stream is still degraded, try these additional checks:
- Test from a different browser. Open the Esper Console in Chrome on a different computer or network, and open a new Remote Viewer session. This helps determine whether the issue is browser-related or device-related.
-
Check your device's CPU and RAM usage. High device load can degrade the video encoding pipeline. Run this ADB command to check:
If CPU or RAM usage is consistently above 80%, close unnecessary apps and try again.adb shell top -n 1 - Collect a screen recording. If the issue persists, record your screen during a degraded Remote Viewer session (use your operating system's built-in screen recording tool). This helps our support team diagnose specific visual artifacts like compression, frame drops, or resolution caps.
Still need help?

- Your current Esper Agent version (found in Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps)
- Your device model and Android OS version
- The type of network connection (Wi-Fi name or cellular)
