Provisioning Wi-Fi SSID with incorrect credentials: edit or delete via blueprint actions
Android
Title: Wi-Fi credentials wrong in a blueprint — edit or delete the networkWhen a blueprint contains a Wi-Fi network with an incorrect SSID, passphrase, or security type, devices stall during provisioning and fail to connect to the network.
Why this happens
Blueprint Wi-Fi settings are written to the device at the start of provisioning, before the user can intervene. If the saved credentials do not exactly match what the access point expects — including the security type — the device cannot authenticate and provisioning halts.
Before you begin
Editing a blueprint requires an Enterprise Admin role on your Esper tenant. If you do not have edit permissions, ask your tenant administrator to make the change before continuing.
Edit or delete the incorrect Wi-Fi network
- Open the Esper Console and navigate to Blueprints. Locate and open the blueprint that contains the incorrect Wi-Fi entry.
- Scroll to the Wi-Fi Networks section and find the row with the SSID you need to fix.
- Click the Actions button (⋯) on the right side of that row, then choose one of the following:
-
Edit — Update the Security Type field to match your access point (for example,
WPA2-Personal) and re-enter the correct passphrase. Save the changes. - Delete — Remove the entry entirely, then click + Add Network to add the network again with the correct credentials.
-
Edit — Update the Security Type field to match your access point (for example,
- Save and publish the updated blueprint. Publishing is required before the corrected settings are applied to any new provisioning session.
Troubleshooting
The Actions menu (⋯) does not appear
Reload the page and try in Google Chrome. If the menu is still absent, your account likely lacks the Enterprise Admin role needed to edit blueprints. Contact your tenant administrator to update the Wi-Fi entry or adjust your permissions.
The device still fails to connect after correcting credentials
Confirm the Security Type in the blueprint exactly matches what the access point requires. Note that WEP is not supported on most modern access points — use WPA2 or WPA3 instead. Also verify the passphrase has no leading or trailing spaces.
You are provisioning with a hidden SSID
Esper provisioning requires the SSID to be broadcast during the provisioning window. Ask your network administrator whether the access point can temporarily broadcast the SSID while devices are being provisioned. As an alternative, provision devices on a visible SSID and use a separate blueprint to migrate them to the hidden network after provisioning is complete.
Changes do not save
Reload the page and retry in Google Chrome. If edits still do not persist and you hold an Enterprise Admin role, proceed to the support step below.
If this doesn't resolve it
Contact Esper Support with the following information:
- The exact SSID and security type configured in the blueprint
- Whether the SSID is hidden or broadcast
- The device model and Android version being provisioned
- Any error messages or behavior observed on the device during provisioning
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
