Esper Console space bar not working: resolve with incognito mode or alternative browser
Android
Improved title: Spacebar not working in Esper Console — clear browser extensionsWhen typing in any Esper Console text field, pressing the spacebar produces no character, making it impossible to enter multi-word values in search bars, group names, or configuration fields.
Why this happens
Certain browser extensions intercept keyboard input and suppress the spacebar keystroke before it reaches the Esper Console. Corrupted or stale session data cached in your browser profile can produce the same effect.
Steps to fix the spacebar
- Open a private or incognito window to rule out extensions and cached data as the cause:
- Chrome (Windows): Ctrl+Shift+N
- Chrome (Mac): Cmd+Shift+N
- Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
- Navigate to the Esper Console and log in with your credentials.
- Type a space in any text field — for example, the search bar in Devices & Groups.
- If the spacebar works in incognito mode, the cause is a browser extension or cached data in your standard profile. Resolve it by taking one of the following actions:
- Open your browser's extension manager and disable extensions one at a time to identify the conflicting one, then remove or keep it disabled.
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then reload the Esper Console in your standard profile.
- If the spacebar still does not work in incognito mode, open the Esper Console in a different browser entirely — for example, switch from Chrome to Firefox — and log in fresh. Different browsers do not share extension environments, which isolates whether the problem is profile-specific or system-level.
Verify: You can type multi-word values in text fields throughout the Esper Console — including search bars, group name fields, and any configuration input — without the spacebar being suppressed.
Also on this page: removing an offline device from your tenant
When a device is offline and you attempt to remove it, selecting Factory Reset or Wipe External Storage causes the removal to fail. These commands require an active connection to the device to execute; because the device is unreachable, the Console blocks the removal entirely.
Steps to remove an offline device
- Go to Devices & Groups in the Esper Console.
- Locate the offline device you want to remove. Offline devices display a grey connectivity indicator next to the device name.
- Open the device's action menu and select the remove or delete option.
- In the removal dialog, confirm that both Factory Reset and Wipe External Storage are unchecked. Leaving either option selected will block the removal because the commands cannot be sent to an unreachable device.
- Confirm the removal.
Verify: The device no longer appears in Devices & Groups and is no longer counted in your tenant's registered device total. This should be reflected immediately after confirming the removal.
If this doesn't resolve it
If the spacebar remains non-functional in both incognito mode and an alternative browser, or if an offline device still cannot be removed after unchecking both reset options, contact Esper Support. Include the following when submitting your request:
- Your tenant ID
- The affected device ID (for removal issues)
- The browser name and version (for spacebar issues)
- A screen recording or screenshot showing the exact behavior
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
