VPP App Missing from Device Install Dropdown: Add to Blueprint First
iOS
When a VPP-licensed app is visible in your Apple VPP library but does not appear in the device-level install dropdown, the app has not yet been added to the Blueprint assigned to that device. Esper only surfaces VPP apps for device-level installation after they are explicitly configured in a Blueprint.
Why this happens
Esper's iOS management model uses Blueprints as the authoritative source of truth for which apps are permitted on a device. Even if a VPP app is licensed and synced, the Esper Console will not expose it as an installable option at the device level until it exists in the device's assigned Blueprint. This prevents unlicensed or unapproved apps from being pushed ad hoc.
Before you begin
Confirm all of the following are true before proceeding:
- Your VPP token is active and synced — check under Apps & Configuration → Apple VPP → Token Status
- The app appears in your Apple VPP library in the Esper Console
- You have at least one available (unassigned) license for the app in Apple Business Manager
Steps
- Open the Esper Console and navigate to Blueprints. Identify the blueprint currently assigned to the target device — if you are unsure which blueprint is assigned, go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Overview and check the Blueprint field.
- Open the blueprint and navigate to its Apps & Configuration section.
- Search for the VPP app by name and add it to the blueprint. This links the app's VPP license entitlement to any device running this blueprint.
- Set the install behavior — for example, Required to push automatically or Optional to make it available on demand.
- Click Publish to save and activate the updated blueprint.
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] and trigger a Blueprint converge. This pushes the updated configuration to the device immediately rather than waiting for the next scheduled sync.
Verify: Within 5 minutes of the converge completing, the VPP app should appear in the device's app list under Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps in the Esper Console, and the app should be installed and functional on the physical device.
If this doesn't resolve it
Work through the following checks before contacting support:
- VPP token out of sync: Go to Apps & Configuration → Apple VPP → Token Status and manually trigger a sync. If the token has expired, renew it in Apple Business Manager, download the new token, and re-upload it to the Esper Console.
- No available licenses: Log in to Apple Business Manager and confirm you have unassigned licenses for this app. If all licenses are in use, the app will not install even after the blueprint converge completes.
- Converge did not complete: Check the device's Activity Feed in the Esper Console to confirm the blueprint converge finished without errors. If it failed, verify the device is online and connected to Esper's servers, then retry the converge.
Single-device installs without Blueprint changes: Adding a VPP app to a blueprint pushes it to every device on that blueprint. If you need to install a VPP app on one specific device without affecting others, contact Esper Support to discuss the available options for your use case.
If the app still does not appear after completing all steps above, submit a support ticket and include the following:
- The blueprint name
- The VPP app name and its App Store ID
- The device ID
- A screenshot or screen recording showing the issue
- The VPP token sync status from Apps & Configuration → Apple VPP → Token Status

Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
