Navigation bar / home button disappears on Samsung devices upgraded from Android 13 to Android 14
Android
If the navigation bar or home button disappears on your Samsung device after upgrading from Android 13 to Android 14, you can fix it using either a Blueprint workaround or by re-provisioning the device. This article explains both options.
Before you begin
This issue affects Samsung devices that were provisioned on Android 13 and then upgraded to Android 14 while managed by Esper. If your Samsung device came with Android 14 pre-installed or was enrolled directly on Android 14, you should not experience this issue.
Option 1: Apply a Blueprint workaround (recommended for active devices)
Use this option first if your device is in active use. It does not require a factory reset.
- Open the Esper Console.
- Go to Devices & Groups → [Affected Device] → Blueprint.
- Apply the navigation bar fix as described in Setting the Navigation Bar on Samsung devices after updating from Android 13 to Android 14.
- Push the updated Blueprint to the device and wait for it to converge.
- Verify that the full navigation bar (Home, Back, Recents buttons) is now visible on the device.
Option 2: Re-provision the device (most reliable)
Use this option if the Blueprint workaround does not work, or if the device is not actively in use. This method requires a factory reset.
- Factory reset the affected Samsung device.
- Re-provision it using your preferred provisioning method (QR code, NFC, or other) on Android 14. Do not upgrade from Android 13 — provision directly on Android 14.
- Wait for provisioning to complete.
- Verify that the full navigation bar (Home, Back, Recents) is visible and matches your expected Blueprint configuration.
If the issue persists
- After Option 1 (Blueprint workaround): Go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Request Bug Report. After the bug report is generated, contact Esper Support and attach the bug report.
- After Option 2 (Re-provisioning): If the navigation bar issue returns on the re-provisioned device, generate a bug report immediately and contact Esper Support with the report attached.
- If devices are on Android 15: Navigation bar issues on Android 15 devices may be unrelated to the Android 13 to 14 upgrade path. Generate a separate bug report for Android 15 devices and contact Esper Support.
Still need help?
If you have tried both options and the issue persists, or if you have questions about which option is best for your situation, submit a support ticket. Include the device serial number and any bug reports you have generated.
