Parent Group Does Not Display Devices from Nested Subgroups in Unified View
Android
Title: Parent group shows only direct devices — subgroups excluded from viewWhen you select a parent group in Devices & Groups, only the devices directly assigned to that parent group appear in the list. Devices assigned to any nested subgroups under it are not shown, even though those subgroups belong to the same group hierarchy.
Why this happens
The Devices & Groups view is scoped to show only devices directly assigned to the selected group. It does not aggregate devices from subgroups below that level. This is intended behavior — your devices remain correctly associated with their subgroups for Blueprint targeting, compliance policies, and reporting. Only the display is affected.
How to view devices across your group hierarchy
- Navigate into each subgroup individually. Go to Devices & Groups → [Parent Group] → [Subgroup Name] to see the devices assigned to that subgroup. Repeat for each subgroup you need to review. This is the most direct way to confirm device placement within your hierarchy.
- Filter by tags or device attributes across all groups. If devices in your hierarchy share a common tag or custom attribute, you can surface them regardless of group assignment. Go to Devices & Groups, open the Filters panel, and apply the relevant tag or attribute values. This lets you build a cross-group view without navigating each subgroup individually.
- Confirm tags are applied correctly if filter results are incomplete. Go to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Device Details → Tags and verify the expected tags are present on each device. A missing or misspelled tag will exclude that device from filtered results.
If this doesn't resolve it
If devices are missing from all group views — not just parent groups — or if devices directly assigned to a parent group are not appearing at all, contact Esper Support. Include the affected device IDs, their current group assignments, and a screenshot of the group view showing the missing devices.
If your workflow requires a single consolidated view of all devices across an entire group tree, submit a feature request to the Esper product team through the Esper Console under Help → Submit Feedback. Include your specific use case so the team can evaluate it accurately.
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
