Navigation bar reappears in Kiosk mode after screen-off idle period

If your tablet's navigation bar reappears after the screen turns off and back on while in Kiosk mode, this article explains why this happens and how to fix it.

Before you begin

This issue occurs when your device is enrolled in Kiosk mode with the hideNavBarInKioskMode parameter set to true in your Blueprint. The navigation bar hides correctly at startup, but reappears after the screen has been off for an extended period and then wakes.

How to hide the navigation bar using Converge (quickest fix)

In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups.
Select the affected device.
Click Device Details → Actions → Converge (or use the Converge button in the device toolbar).
Wait for Converge to complete. The navigation bar will hide automatically without requiring a device reboot.
Verify the navigation bar is no longer visible by checking the device's live view or taking a screenshot.

How to hide the navigation bar by rebooting (alternative)

If Converge is unavailable or your device is unreachable:

Physically reboot the device.
Allow it to fully boot back into Kiosk mode.
Verify the navigation bar is hidden immediately after startup.

How to update your Esper Agent

Updating the Esper Agent may resolve this issue. To apply the update:

In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups → [Device] → Apps.
Update the Esper Agent to the latest available version.
Monitor your device across a full idle and screen-off cycle.
Leave the device idle overnight and verify the navigation bar state when the screen wakes the next morning.
