Apple VPP Apps Not Appearing in App Reports
iOS
Title: VPP app installations missing from App Reports — check license viewWhen reviewing app deployment status in App Reports, iOS apps installed through Apple's Volume Purchase Program (VPP) do not appear, even when licenses have been consumed and the apps are confirmed installed on devices.
Why this happens
App Reports only surfaces installation data for Android managed apps and non-VPP iOS apps. VPP app installations are managed through Apple's licensing infrastructure, which reports license assignment rather than per-device installation state. Esper receives license consumption data from Apple but does not receive the individual install confirmations that App Reports requires to display an entry.
How to find VPP app installation status
Use the VPP license view to determine which devices have been assigned — and are running — a VPP app.
- Open the Esper Console and select Apps from the left sidebar.
- Under the Apple VPP Apps section, locate the app you want to check.
- Select the app to open its detail view.
- Review the VPP License section, which shows:
- Total licenses available under your VPP agreement
- Number of licenses currently consumed
- Which devices or users have been assigned a license
- Cross-reference the assigned devices against your device inventory in Devices & Groups to confirm expected coverage. A license assignment indicates the app has been pushed to that device through Apple's MDM channel.
Limitations to be aware of
The VPP license view shows license assignment, not a real-time installation confirmation. It does not provide the same per-device install status, version, or timestamp detail that App Reports shows for other app types. This applies whether the app was deployed through a blueprint or through direct license assignment.
If this doesn't resolve it
If the license assignment count does not match your expected device count, or if devices appear assigned but you have reason to believe the app is not installed, contact Esper Support with the following information:
- The VPP app name and Apple Adam ID
- The total and consumed license counts from the VPP License section
- The device serial numbers or Esper device IDs where the discrepancy is observed
- Whether the app was deployed via a blueprint or direct assignment
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
