VPP App Section Fails to Load: Re-Upload VPP Token to Restore Access
iOS
AndroidiOS
If the VPP (Volume Purchase Program) app section in your Esper Console fails to load, your VPP token may have expired or been revoked in Apple Business Manager. This guide walks you through re-uploading a valid token to restore access to your VPP apps.
Before you begin
You'll need:
- Administrator or Content Manager access to your Apple Business Manager account
- Administrator access to your Esper Console
Step 1: Download a new VPP token from Apple Business Manager
- Log in to Apple Business Manager at business.apple.com using an account with Administrator or Content Manager privileges.
- Navigate to Settings → Apps and Books.
- Locate the MDM server assignment for Esper.
- Download a new VPP token file (
.vpptoken) for your Esper server.
Step 2: Upload the token to your Esper Console
- Log in to your Esper Console (for example,
yourcompany.esper.cloud). - Navigate to Company Settings → Apple MDM.
- Locate the VPP token upload field.
- Upload the newly downloaded
.vpptokenfile to replace the expired or revoked token. - Save your configuration and allow Esper to re-sync with Apple's VPP service. This may take a few minutes.
Step 3: Verify the VPP apps section loads
- Navigate to Apps & Configuration → VPP Apps in your Esper Console.
- Confirm that the app catalog loads successfully and your previously assigned VPP apps are visible.
- If you were updating an app version, retry that workflow to confirm it now works.
Troubleshooting
If the VPP section still fails to load after uploading a new token:
- Verify in Apple Business Manager that the token is explicitly assigned to the Esper server and not to another MDM provider.
- Confirm that the Apple Business Manager account you used to generate the token has Administrator or Content Manager role permissions.
- If the VPP apps section loads but specific apps are missing, verify in Apple Business Manager under Apps and Books that licenses are still assigned to the correct MDM server.
- Check your browser's developer tools console for any error messages that appear when the VPP apps section attempts to load.
Important notes
- VPP tokens expire annually. We recommend proactively re-downloading and re-uploading your token before expiry to avoid service disruption.
- Only one MDM server can hold a VPP token at a time in Apple Business Manager. If your token was transferred to another MDM provider, Esper will lose access immediately.
- This issue only affects iOS and iPadOS device management through Apple MDM. It does not affect Android Apps & Configuration on your Esper enterprise.
Still need help?
If the VPP apps section still does not load after following these steps, contact Esper Support. provide your enterprise ID, the timestamp when you uploaded the token, and any error messages visible in your browser developer tools.
