Frequent automatic logouts from Esper Console when multiple browser tabs are open
Android
When multiple Esper Console tabs are open in the same browser, you may be silently redirected to the login page without warning — anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours after logging in. In some cases, Console pages refresh unexpectedly without a full logout.
Why this happens
Each browser tab shares the same session token for your Esper Console login. When multiple tabs are active simultaneously, competing requests can cause the session token to be invalidated or refreshed inconsistently, forcing a logout. Browser extensions that manage cookies or sessions, and corporate network policies that enforce their own timeout rules, can make this worse.
Steps to resolve
- Clear your browser cache and cookies for the Esper Console domain. Close all Esper Console tabs, clear cached data and cookies scoped to your Console URL, then close and reopen the browser entirely. Stale or conflicting session data stored in the cache is a common trigger for premature logouts.
- Test with a single browser tab. Log back into the Esper Console and work in a single tab for at least one hour. If logouts stop, the root cause is concurrent tab sessions invalidating each other's tokens. Use a single active tab as a workaround until the session issue is fully resolved in your environment.
- Test in Incognito or Private Browsing mode. Open a private browsing window — this disables most extensions by default — log into the Esper Console, and work normally with multiple tabs open for one to two hours. If logouts no longer occur, a browser extension is interfering with your session. Common culprits include session managers, cookie cleaners, and privacy or ad-blocking extensions. Disable extensions one at a time in normal mode to identify which one is responsible.
- Update your browser to the latest stable release. Outdated browser versions can mishandle session token renewal. Check your browser's version, update to the latest stable release, restart, and test the Console again.
- Check your organization's authentication and network policies. If your organization uses SSO or SAML authentication, your identity provider may enforce its own session timeout independently of Esper. Confirm with your IT administrator whether a corporate proxy, VPN policy, or identity provider timeout is cutting sessions short. Also verify you are not logged into the same Esper account simultaneously from multiple devices or browsers, as this can invalidate your active session.
If this doesn't resolve it
If you are still experiencing unexpected logouts after completing all steps, contact Esper Support and include the following information:
- Browser name and version
- Number of Esper Console tabs open when the logout occurs
- Approximate session duration before logout
- List of browser extensions enabled in normal mode
- Whether the issue occurs in Incognito or Private Browsing mode
- Whether your organization uses SSO, SAML, a VPN, or a corporate proxy
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
