Remote Control tap/input stops working after blueprint change — restore via accessibility toggle
Android
When you apply a blueprint change to a device with Esper Remote Control enabled, the tap and input functions may stop working, though you can still view the screen remotely. This article explains how to restore Remote Control functionality.
Before you begin
Remote Control tap/input stops working after a blueprint change is applied to your device. Remote View (screen observation) continues to work normally. This issue affects all device models where the Esper Remote Control accessibility service is managed at the user level.
How to restore Remote Control immediately
Follow these steps to manually restore Remote Control tap and input functionality:
- Physically access the affected device.
- Navigate to Settings → Accessibility.
- Locate Esper Remote Control in the accessibility services list.
- Toggle the service OFF.
- Wait 2–3 seconds.
- Toggle the service back ON.
- Open the Esper Console and navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Remote Control.
- Confirm that tap and input actions are now responsive.
How to prevent this issue permanently
To avoid manual recovery after every blueprint change, you can install a Supervisor Plugin on your device. This option requires coordination with your device manufacturer (OEM).
- Contact Esper Support to request generation of an unsigned Supervisor Plugin for your device model.
- Submit the unsigned plugin to your device manufacturer (for example, Sony) and request that they sign it with their platform keys.
- Once signed, install the Supervisor Plugin on your devices using Esper Apps & Configuration.
- With the Supervisor Plugin active, accessibility permissions are maintained at the system level and survive blueprint changes without manual intervention.
- Apply a blueprint change to a test device and confirm that Remote Control tap actions remain functional.
Troubleshooting
If Remote Control tap/input does not restore after toggling the accessibility service:
- Collect a bug report by navigating to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Request Bug Report.
- Contact Esper Support and attach the bug report to your ticket.
If Remote View (screen observation) is also broken, not just tap/input:
- Collect device logs and contact Esper Support with the logs attached.
